Please help place a value on this set for me

I posted pics of this set recently in the Poker Chips Gallery , and was hoping someone could help me to place a value on the set. I also showed them to a local card player who wants to get himself a nice gift after just winning our winter poker league. He made me an offer, and I think it is a touch low, but don't want to insult him (he is a friend) unless others think the set is worth more then he does as well. Keep in mind this set is most likely rare, and maybe 1 of a kind, but that some of the plaques and chips were sold/traded off. The amounts of each denom and also scans can be found in this thread

I would appreciate the opinions of the poker set collectors here, as you guys have watched ALOT more chips sets sell
then I have .Please give me your honest estimates by PM or in this thread, either is fine with me, and you won't hurt my feelings if you say a lower number then I think they are worth ....

This custom ChipTalk link is built to show you only the real deal: Casino quality poker chips; Not the plastic chips that some sellers call "clay."

Re: Please help place a value on this set for me

This is just a guess as to what I would be willing to pay for a setup like this and is only my opinion but I think with those sweet plaques it would be in the $1500 - $2000 range.

I wish I just won a league and could pony up the $$$ to take them off your hands. It is truely a beautiful set.

If you decide to keep them try to fill in the holes that have been created by the previous owners sales, a complete set would increase the value.

Re: Please help place a value on this set for me

Hmmm...
I thought this set was not for sale .
I can not really advise on the price for the total set but here are some guides.
The plaques are getting aprox $30-$40 each on EBay. The chips are aprox $4-$5 on EBay. Now you could argue that in qty the price should be less but in this case I think that the extreme rarity of this set would cause the prices to go up. Does that help? Most likely not but oh well..

Re: Please help place a value on this set for me

I appreciate the advice and opinions given so far, and would greatly appreciate more of them.

To avoid any confusion (or having this thread deleted) , I am NOT soliciting offers for this set. If I am able to come to a price with my poker buddy I most likely will sell it to him. If not, I might keep it. If I decide to sell it online, I will either post it into the Member 2 Member sales catagory, or list it directly to eBAY, and make a post on ChipTalk when I do.....

Re: Please help place a value on this set for me

Justin,

In that case, the set is worth $10 and I'll offer you double that!

I know you asked me via PM for my thoughts on value and I have to be honest. I do not disagree with what Cynabear has posted, however, I will add that there is a certain amount of added value to the set based on what the full set was for, a trophy. Unfortunately the whole has been infringed upon, but none-the-less, the set may have more significance to a golfer who also plays poker or collects chips.

I would also recommend that you contact Robert Eisenstadt. Although he does not deal in jetons/plaques, he does deal in sets! He might be able to give you some pointers.

However, is it possible that you are over thinking this? Regardless of value, you really need to decide if you are willing to sell it. If not, then keep it and admire it. If you decide to sell, then it becomes a question of how best to get the best offer. It matters not what the value is because chances are, if and when you decide to sell it, you will then find out the value.

Nice set! Please be sure to scan a sample set image for future reference. I would like to get the scan if thats OK?

Well, my friend is refusing to pay a nickle over $400 for the set, regardless of what anyone else says, so most likely I won't be selling it for quite some time. I told him that even if he let me pick out a couple more of the plaques for myself I still would not sell for that price
As for Robert E, I disagree with the part where you said he doesn't deal in jetons or plaques. I bought one of my nicest jetons from him (San Juan Puerto Rico), as well as some mother of pearls including a small plaque. I am also willing to bet he has quite a few B+G samples in his collection, as he likes to collect items from the different chip producers.
If I should decide to sell this set I will make a post here (either in the Auction Links, or Member 2 Member section) to let everyone know..

Re: Please help place a value on this set for me

Opps, sorry Justin. I stand corrected. My bad about Robert and plaques/jetons. I should have said that I was not sure if he dealt in plaques/jetons. But all this means that he is an even better resource than what I thought.

Do you plan on contacting him?

Contacting Robert?
Most likely no. If I decide to sell this set I will post the details here, and also on thechipboard.com
He views that site regularly, and I want to give plenty of potential buyers a shot at the set rather then offer it to only 1 collector.
