Chips: 1,589 | | | Original Inlaid Kings Crown $1, $5, $25 I am posting some interesting info on these chips in another thread that I started some time ago here: http://www.chiptalk.net/forum/chip-c...wn-casino.html
I picked up a few of each of these original Kings Crown Inlaid chips. I have been watching for these on e-bay for quite some time so I have a general idea of what they usually go for, but I do not have any of the price guides. If someone could tell me how they are listed, I would sure appreciate it.
I really don't know much about collecting chips at all, but I am very much interested. I see that on e-bay right now there is this auction: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...1989&rd=1&rd=1
that says the $1 is listed as R-4. I know that this tells collectors something, but what exactly? I think it is referring to how many are known to be in existence??
So for each of the 3 chips I found, R-? and Price range, and what exactly does this R-4, R-7 etc mean?
Here they are:
Thanks,

Nanook | The "R" is the Rarity rating used in the Campagilia & Wells Casino Chip Price Guide. There is R1 to R10. The higher number the more scarce. Its an estimate, so take them with a grain of salt. There have been many a rare chip, which drives the price up and then someone finds a box of them somewhere.
R-4 = approx. 151-350 chips are thought to exist
$1 Chip
R-4 with a value of $3 (AVG condition), $4 (Slightly Used Condition) and $6 (New Condition)
$5 Chip
Red> R-4 with a value of $5/$7/$10
Yellow> R-4 $6/$9/$12
$25 Chip
Green> R-4 $8/$12/$16
Turquoise> R-7 $15/$22/$30 |

Nanook, If I may ask?... You said: "...original Kings Crown Inlaid chips." Use of the term "inlaid" refers to what, in this instance?
I only ask because I am not familiar with it being used with these chips. Usually, and this is in chip collecting circles, the term "inlaid" usually means where a die-cut letter or symbol is imbedded onto the surface of a chip. I imagine that the process to affix a shaped inlay onto a chip might be the same. but the term "inlaid" in not normally used for shaped inlays.
I don't know why this is, it is simply the way I have seen it. If the term "inlaid" is used, then that means to look for an initial (A-Z) or a numeral, or a geometric design, or some other design that involves a die-cut and no printing. Usually.

Jim (Gaming Ore) Follis | Interesting info Jim.
Why I referred to them that way was only because there have been several knock offs of the originals including my GB that was a HotStamped chip as opposed to an "inlaid" chip. This shows my chip ignorance. I just thought that an "inlay" just referred to any chip that had a piece of paper with printing on it squished into the chip just like HotStamp or Coin in Center etc.. As far as I know there is nothing special like you are talking about. Just my ignorance.
On the rating issue, R-7 is mentioned for the $25 tourquoise. How many would that R-7 refer to?

Please see my other post to you!!!
I will have to get back to you about "rarity" as I do not have my guides with me.
However, if the stickered Sharkey's are legit, their R could be greater!
I just don't know at this minute, as I don't have my guides with me.
Could be the stickers are common, could be they are NOT!
I just can't check very well from work.
