'HRB' on Arodie

These three chips recently sold for $305. No specific info was given on their origins. They appear to be illegals on the arodie mold.

Now the question is, what club did these formerly belong to?

Wow. They are GORGEOUS.

Actually would have wanted those, but I choke at 20 bucks for an auction, so that would never happen.

Re: 'HRB' on Arodie

I have no knowledge of these chips, however I do know that this type of thing was very common in days gone by for guys to put their initials on one side and the denom on the other. It was the cusomization of the day. It is possible that they were illegals, but unless someone knows that to be the case they probably just belonged to some guy that had those initials.

Nanook, if these belonged to an individual, and not to a legendary gambling hall, why would someone pay $300 for 3 chips?

Re: 'HRB' on Arodie

here's what the buyer wrote me:

"Books more knowledgable than me say that they are from the Hornstein's Race Book, thus the HRB. It was located in the Nevada Club at Stateline Tahoe, NV.

Mike"

Sounds reasonable. I guess that I didn't read the op close enough. I skipped past the part that the $305 was for just 3 chips. That does seem unreasonably high for an individuals chips.

Re: 'HRB' on Arodie

$1: $200 - $249
$5: $250 - $299
$25: $350 - $399

Jim checked out the buyer's comments and sure enough, these check out with the Chip Rack. Here's the prices they have listed for this lot. So actually this guy got a deal, it would seem.
