Can anyone help identify this chip?

I had to pick these up. The guy was advertising 20 Paulson H&C chips as bakelite chips. I saw these and realized they were paulsons. I am from KY and of course we LOVE horses. Can anyone help out with where this might have came from. I don't think the current owner has any idea these are Paulson chips or he would not have called them bakelites. Also the horse head is not a hotstamp but actually embossed into the chips. I haven't seen this before and was curious.

Are you out there GamingOre?

Re: Can anyone help identify this chip?

Somebody posted that chip recently. I remember asking if it was a hot-stamp, because it looks like green ink. I don’t think they ever replied, and now I can’t find the thread.

Re: Can anyone help identify this chip?

Great info. Can you explain the Christy & Jones to me. I am not familiar.

Heck I picked these up for $10. Not a bad buy.

Nope, never have, but I like it. Is there any foil in that stamp or what? Its hard to tell from the pic.

I'm not all THAT familiar with C&J as a company, but Christy and Jones was a manufacturer back in the day (50's - 60's) that used the Hat and Cane mold before it was used by and became more associated as we all now know by Paul-Son. C&J also made chips using the Horsehead-Left mold (the Horeses are facing left).

It's sort of like if Dennis would have sold the molds he has now to another company, for example to Blue Chip, then perhaps years from now, everyone would immediately associate the SCROWN with the BCC first instead of TR King. Many chip molds have done a little company hopping in the past, as for whatever reasons, went from company to company.

Re: Can anyone help identify this chip?

That is the interesting part JM. It is embossed not hotstamped. I find that interesting.

Re: Can anyone help identify this chip?

Again..great info. I had never heard of C&J and greatly appreciate the background. Very, very interesting. Sent you some postive.

Also a great analogy.
