New Stardust Final Issue?

The new Stardust 2006 chips - worth anything, or just a gimmick? I'm thinking of getting a pile of both the old coin inlay chips and the new Paulsons just to sit on until the casino officially closes.

Any thoughts?

They are easily obtainable so probably won't get much above face. But they are the last issue of a casino. They are on the tables mixed in with the CIC chips. Pick up a couple, but dont go crazy.

Stardust is going all-out with its closing. Pretty much everything they've got there is dated with the opening/closing dates in all 3 logo shops. And they are getting quite a price for them.

Re: New Stardust Final Issue?

Thanks for the advice. I'll probably pick up 100 or so and wait until around the time of closing. I've seen these going for a good price on eBay...but we all know how that goes!

Re: New Stardust Final Issue?

What timeframe are they planning the official closing for? I'm looking to be out there Labor Day weekend.

Re: New Stardust Final Issue?

In my opinion....

Down the road, the Bud Jones CIC's will be worth slightly more than the Paul-Son, last issue chips. When the Stardust closes, at the end of the year, I figure that in the final days, all of the $1 chips will be gone and perhaps all of the $5's. (This is what happened at the Desert Inn. I was there closing day and the cage had no $1 chips!)

Between now and the end of the year, the Paul-Son chips will get worn, while the Bud Jones chips (nearly indestructible) will still look great, and I believe, will hold a better value, over time.

One could make the arguement that the Paul-Son chips, in uncirculated condition, will be more valuable than the Bud Jones chips, in the long run, but hey, unless there is a re-order (which could happen) all the uncirculated Paul-Son chips have already been gathered by the collecting community and it's too late to get them. But the quantity already gathered is sufficient to exceed demand now and I suspect for years to come.

There is also another consideration. Are these Paul-Son's really the last "Stardust" issue? What are the plans for the Stardust? Has it been said that the "Stardust" name is going away, or are the current owners (Boyd Gaming) just tearing it down to re-build it as a newer Stardust?

If after several years of construction, the property at 3000 Las Vegas Blvd. S. is still under the same ownership (Boyd) and has the same name (Stardust) then I don't believe that the current Paul-Son chips will have any value greater than a common $1 chip.

But hey, this is just my opinion!!!

When I spoke to one of the pit bosses they were planning a new years eve implosion - with the casino closing before that.

Re: New Stardust Final Issue?

I've got about 100 of the new chips lined up. They are all in either uncirculated or near uncirculated condition. Hopefully you are correct about the paulsons wearing down or selling out.

Either way they are a great looking chip and a piece of "old vegas"...at least sentimentally anyway.

Oh that's good, I'd hate to have reservations a week after it's blown up.
