Chips: 111 | | | Playboy Club - London I don't know if there is or was a Playboy club in London, but my dad bought this chip a few years ago off ebay after we had recently taken a family vacation over there.
Now that he has learned of my new chip fetish, he's asking if I can find out more about it. Do any of you know anything about this chip or the club in general?
The scan didn't come out great. The big edgspots are actually neon pink, like the inlay, and the inlay kind of looks "painted" on there which is not as evident when you look at the actual chip, but maybe this should tell me something.
The interesting thing for me with this chip is how it has an edgespot within an edgespot, so to speak. I've never seen that before. Is it uncommon?
Thanks for your help.

-Q | There was a playboy club in London and this chip sells for $10-$20
Almost all the other denominations of this chip in the large key form sell for much more. Most of them sell for over $50 per chip. Somehow there was larger quantities of this chip in new unused condition. |

Note that its 2 shillings 6d (pennies). Also note its a Christy/Jones H&C mold.
So this is a pre-1971 chip. There are 12 pennies to the shilling so this is functionally equiv to a snapper in my head. However if we do the conversion (20 shillings to the pound) then this is about 10pence... |

Just kidding. Cool chip.
Thanks for the replies, my Dad will be glad to hear this is the real thing and not some kind of knock-off.

-Q | The Playboy Club chips are some of the nicest looking Large Key chips out there.
Most of the higher denomination are notched and they are some of the most valuable large key chips too.
At one time the large key chips were the focus of my collection.
I don't know why there are so many of the 10lb chips. You might be able to find out from gamingore. He is very knowlegable. |

I agree, They're very nice looking chips. Now I'm thinking about trying to get my hands on another denomination and give to him for his birthday or Christmas or something. I dunno though, if he gets hooked on collecting, then we're really in trouble.

-Q | Notched means that they took a machine and basicaly took bites out of the chip. This is a form of cancelling a chip.
This is done instead of drilling a hole through the chip. |

-Q | He are two examp-les of notching:
Generally speaking, "notching" is done by the manufacturer as means to use a chip for some legitimate purpose, but not have it confused with a live gaming chip. In some gaming jurisdictions, an actual chip must be submitted before an approval-to-use can be granted. Notching is usiually done to the chip being submitted.
Manufacturers will also notch a chip that is being submitted to a casino, as a final is-this-what-you-wanted verification.
Samples will often be notched and sometimes, notching will be done as a form of cancellation of an entire rack of chips. But putting a drill hole through those chips is done more often, or hot-stamping.
There was a discussion about notching, quantities and values over on thechipboard.com the past several days that readers of this message may find interesting. Here then is a link: http://www.thechipboard.com/cgi-bin/...es;read=531776
