Chips: 76 | | | Re: id these home game "plain jane" chips I'm pretty sure these are clay chips. You can see them all over on ebay and they don't go for much. Some of the more rare colors like yellow do better.
Here's a couple of completed auctions: http://cgi.ebay.com/Vintage-clay-or-...QQcmdZViewItem http://cgi.ebay.com/Vintage-Poker-Ch...QQcmdZViewItem
There are many more of these auctions and some do go for considerably more, but I don't think the chips are that valuable. That doesn't mean that they aren't cool. I have more than a few of them.
And one more link to these chips on Robert Eisenstadt's page: http://www.antiquegamblingchips.com/sets.htm
These chips are in the very last section. |

Chips: 1,053 | | | Re: id these home game "plain jane" chips I have quite a few hundred of those plain chips in blue, red and white. They look exactly like what you have pictured and what Billy Bob shows in the links that he provided.
I was told they were clay, but have my doubts as some cracked in pieces during shipping. The insides and edges of the cracked chips looks and feels very much like hard plastic. If clay, they are a unique compound.

Chips: 10,807 | | | Re: id these home game "plain jane" chips Definitely clay!
More likely from the 30's or 40's.
Only other color is yellow and yellow had to be bought as a supplement to the red, white and blue chips.
The need for a fifth denom, back then, was not great so we do not see a great deal of yellow.

Jim (Gaming Ore) Follis | Are you sure? I ask only because they made a boat load of these out of bake-lite and the bake-lites that are yellow are usually just really old white ones. Is there a way to tell they are clay just from the picture? |

EDIT: I see Jim has already pointed that out. Well, he has forgotten more about rare chips than I'll ever know. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
