It's the NCV that seems to clash for me, and the 25c and $1 that get lost. Maybe if the background pattern was a tad enlarged it would stand out more while still being color-matched.

Speaking of which, does a color-matched version enlarged to the same size as side B work for side A?

EDIT: Regarding size of the inlay itself, any thoughts on having both grand and giant inlays? Sort of another step in the overall progression.

If you go with a grand inlay across the board it takes away from your edge spots and the spacing of the edge spots.
I like to see my pretty edgespots!!!!!!!!

The 1K and 5K are currently giant inlays, not grand.

1 3/8, or "Giant" - like on the Fan of Cards consumer line

The Cigar & Snifter mold chips are roughly 1 1/2 inches in diameter. On this mold, the "Giant" inlay goes roughly to the outer concentric circle. The 7/8ths fits snuggly inside the inner concentric circle (or depression when the level of the chip drops down for the inlay). The "Super Grand" would most likely cut right in the middle of the "Cigar & Snifter" engravings. Any shaped inlays have to be on the 7/8th size, and the printable area is even smaller as you can see on the Chip Factory.

Re: Final Four Protege Contestant: Johnny5

Well, I realize that the inlay needs some work if I want to have any sort of chance, so comments and suggestions of what you'd like to see are much appreciated.

It seems that the 'A' side wasn't overly popular, so I think that needs the most work and I'll start there. I really like the 'B' side, so I don't even know if I'll change much there unless I hear otherwise. The only somewhat negative comment I heard was on the script font legibility which I don't forsee as an issue at all. I have a few things to post now for some initial feedback:

Original set:

1st attempt at changes to side A:

1 - Using same background on both sides

2 - 'B' style combined with edgespot color matched bg rather than black

All Giant (just for JT & Stank)

Actually, I mocked this up originally but never posted it. It could use a bit of polishing, but it seemed to me that all giant inlays wouldn't be too popular so I abandonded it.

As far as changing the chip colors, I don't know if I really want to mess with them. The current configuration was already voted on and chosen by the masses and I don't really want to go against all the work that has already been put in. That plus the fact that I don't really have any alternate ideas, and my time is still quite limited , so I will focus on the inlays for now. The only chip colors that really concern me are the NCV (depends on the inlay style though). In my eyes, this chip is likely to be used mainly as a low denomination chip (rather than a $10K+, though I could be wrong), and if thats the case, there may be a bit too much blue when combined with the 25˘ and $1.

If there is time I'll try to squeeze in some chip tweaking at the end.

Apologies if the 'virtual mockups' are distracting, once I get closer to a decision on the inlays, I'll be mocking them up on the ChipFactory images.

Hmm, I'll look into that, thanks!

I certainly have considered including the grand inlay in the progression, but it would fall right in the middle of the C&S mold and I think that would look very strange.

Thanks

I think I'd still make these suggestions:
1. Give the NCV chip a shaped inlay
2. Replace 'NCV' - with Protégé or something.
3. Maybe lighten the BG color on the $100 - that plum-ish color is fairly dark and all the other chips have lighter colors.
4. If there's any inlay size one-step down from the giganto-enormous, it might be good to see larger edge spots.

Bear in mind those are ½¢ suggestions - bringing my total to 2¢.

*EDIT*
5. Something about decimal points on poker chips just seem sout of place to me. I know the ¢ is on the outer ring, but maybe reuse it in the center?

Hey J5,

Would you consider less repeats of the denom? It seems a little "busy" to me. Other than that, I think you have an excellent design.
