Chips: 4,044 | | | Protege Concept/Idea Group Discussion Thread This thread is specifically for posting and discussing inlay concepts/ideas. Ideas posted in this thread are "public domain". If you don't want to add an idea/concept to the public domain, don't submit it publically in this thread or in any exclusive contestant thread. Any ideas submitted in this thread or in any exclusive contestant thead can be used by anyone. What credit and/or compensation is given to the original idea and/or originating person is 100% at the discretion of the person who ultimately submits something from a posted idea/concept. The social norms of the board will be suffice to police this, but the default premise is that "Ideas/concepts by themselves are essentially worthless. Executing on an idea/concept is where the value is created". If this doesn't sit well with you, it may be best to refrain from posting publically, and instead to rely on PM and other means of private communication.

Maybe everyone is a little overwhelmed with the 20+ submissions?!?
OK, so I'll keep posting suggestions here nonetheless...
On the topic of background color, I think Bellagio does something cool with their background color. Instead of using white, they use a color that looks like something you'd find on an aged document or old scroll. There might even be texture built into the "background color", similar to the actual texture you might find on really fine resume paper. I'm pretty sure they do this intentionally. It gives the chips a more regal look. Might be worth incorporating into your design. |

If you want to keep a brighter white in the center, you can accomplish this with a radial gradient fill in either Illustrator or Photoshop, with white in the center and a (slightly) darker color around the rim. |

Is there an easy way to make the suit shapes (hearts, diamond, clubs, spades) in Illustrator? I know they are a selectable shape in Photoshop, but not as familiar with Illustrator and I do not see them in there.
Any help appreciated.

Clayton | Draw the shape in PS (holding &/or will constrain proportions). Using your path tool (blk arrow) select the path (you will have to have that layer/path selected). Copy. Open AI. Paste. I use PS all the time for making vectors as it's easier for me to draw in.
NOTE: PS = Photoshop here not Pokerstars

Chips: 741 | | | Re: Protege Concept/Idea Group Discussion Thread As for the suit shapes, another quick method is to use a "dingbat" typeface that has the suits within it, type the characters in Illustrator, and then choose "Outline Text". Voila! You've got a vector illustration of the card suits.
Granted, most of the suit illustrations found in font packages aren't particularly elegant, but once you've got the outline, you can tweak to your heart's content. |
