Chips: 4,044 | | | Re: 5/17/2006: General Vote for $5 Chip (50 Chip Prize to Winner) I need some feedback on how best to go about winnowing down the submissions, eventually to a winner. In other words, what's the best means to find the best chip and minimize any inate deficiencies in the process. Ideally, we want to get a majority vote for one clear favorite. Of course, we're starting with 19 candidates on this $5 vote, and other chips with more edge spot variability will likely prove to have more submissions to choose from, many very similar like in this vote-off.
This is a learning process, so please be patient on this first chip, and we'll sort things out for the rest. It might take a bit longer on this chip, and we'll take our time on the other "core" chips to ensure we get the best possible result, but we can speed the process up after that.
Observations so far: - Good (and pretty fast) response from CT members. 24 hours during the week seems to be enough time for an adequate response, especially if members know a timeframe ahead.
- A nomination and a 2nd seem to be a good method of getting the initial qualifying submissions for the general vote.
Which takes us to where we are now, and the issues I see on the horizon: - There seems to be little chance of a clear favorite in the general election, especially considering a good percentage of the voters are also contestants. As of post #35 there are roughly 190 points doled out according to the voting methodology, with the least liked chip getting 5 points (~2.6% of the points) and a couple of favorites getting 17 (still only 8.9% of the points). Even if we didn't have a tie for the top spot currently, choosing that chip would go against the wishes of over 90% of the voters. Not ideal by a long shot.
Any suggestions on how best to deal with this issue? Should be take an arbitrary number, say the top 5, even if combined they don't even represent over 50% of the voting setiment? Should we do it American Idol style and kick out the lowest half, then repeat, then repeat, then have a final? - There seem to be somewhat redundant chips that might be splitting the general vote among similars (i.e. Black spots on either blood or royal red; 3 close shades of purple on dark red and another shade of purple on royal; or mustard spots on either blood or royal red) and thus giving a natural advantage to chips using more uniquely represented colors. Individually, all of these similar chips I mention above are among the upper vote getters, but still they might be under-represented if they really represent favorite "groups of chip colors".
Any ideas how to remedy this situation?
Any input will be greatly appreciated. |

That's it.
Sidepot I think you gave us too many votes.
Two would have narrowed it down. Five is ridic. |

I picked lighter , neutral edgespots (couldn't resist the #19 w/ black though) thinking they would not be used as base colors later. Thus leaving more options when we get into the more complex schemes.
btw, we seem to be all over the place on this poll, but I would be happy with quite a few combos. |

Chips: 265 | | | Re: 5/17/2006: General Vote for $5 Chip (50 Chip Prize to Winner) In regards to methodology:
I don't think many people are worried about the slight difference between Royal or Blood. What it boils down to is about 3 choices.
1. Red with a light edgespot - White, Almond, Mustard, Yellow, Lt. Greens
2. Red with a dark edgespot - Dark blues, purples, black, dark green.
3. Red with a semi-complimentary spot - Pink, Coral, the "other" red.
Not quite sure where to classify the Horizon blue or lavender.
Maybe get the top 2 or 3 from each of the above types and then run them off. The Royal vs Blood could be tweaked anytime.
Also, I've mentioned this before, but keep in mind you want signficantly differing edgespots on your $5 Red and ($25??) Green chips because 6-8% of the male population is red/green color deficient. So, if we go light on the red, I'd go darker on the green. (or vice versa) Of course, differing edgespots will help so its not critical.
Its not going to be as efficient as anyone would like, so I would recommend lots of patience. | | | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
