Re: Vote for your favorite edge spot configurations

Okay...
monochrome chips...
to pick the spot pattern progression! what a fantastic idea!!! too bad I didn't think of that... ( back around the middle of feb...)

I was just going to repost my patterns, but it looks like I need to tweak it a bit, because I used a derived 3 1/8 by using the 6 1/8 and making one set of the spots the same as the base color..
question- sidepot.... on # 14, do the 8 spots all have to be the same color? or can we alternate 2 colors, which would sort of give it a similar appearance to #17, but with a base-colored gap between the 2 adjacent spots.

Re: Vote for your favorite edge spot configurations

$1$5$25$100
BLANK 25c $500$1000$5000
ncv

(if no spots is an option for the quarter)

my thinking was that for the chips i would be using ($5 -$500) most for tourneys, i would make the spots all consistent with eachother as far as width of each group of spots and number of groups, but vary them with different numbers within each edge spot group. what i mean is that the $5, $25, $100, and $500 spots would all take up the same space of the chip (or close to it), but the $5 spot would be all one color, $25 spot two colors, $100 spot three colors, and the $500 spot two colors with base color seperating them. then let the $1000 and $5000 chips be the more unique spot configs. i just didn't want to get too acrossed the board with spots, since i have a feeling most people are going to want to use many different shaped inlays. just dont want the set to end up being way too busy.

Good question Zathras. The quick answer is no, they don't have to be the same color. This is really the one exception where you can have one an edge spot match the base color (if there are 3 spots and the base color spot is sandwiched in between them). Works on both 14 and 13. That being said, this can be complicated by an unfriendly base color. Certain are more adept at color matching. So the answer is yes we can submit 13 and 14 with two different color edge spots, but some might get rejected by the manufacturer.

Re: Vote for your favorite edge spot configurations

Good to see this progressing Sidepot. I'd just like to throw out again that just because we CAN use all different spot configurations doesn't necessarily mean we should or need to. It appears though that you would prefer that each chip use a different spot pattern. Is that the case?

No, that's not really my preference, and I agree that you have a vaild point. I think both can be done well, and you'll see from the lines we currently carry that we have a uniform edge spot configuration on all of our existing lines. Nonetheless, I'm trying to keep my preference out of this process as much as possible. The intent of this contest is to totally avoid a top down design approach. The reason we're going with a progression for the default color/edge spot set is that seemed to be the way the community was leaning. If you'd like to propose a uniform edge spot set, we could certainly entertain that as well. Perhaps we could have two default sets, one progression and one not. I'd be interested in hearing feedback from others to support or oppose the idea of a uniform set.

And remember that individual inlay design submitters are free to use their own spots (progression or not) as well.
