Chips: 1,211 | | | Re: Protégé Stage 3 - New Escalated "Path" to the Final Color Set I dare say this is actually starting to go somewhere constructive.
As for the starting over, my guess is that if you set up another poll and asked folks either to pick the set we have and tweak it or start over, the vast right-wing majority would say start over.
Let's do whatever it takes to make the chips great. (I'll even settle for pretty good). |

We'll have just as many disagreements on spots, so let's l;eave them. We can revisit it later if there are a lot of complaints for one or two of them. |

Chips: 4,044 | | | Re: Protégé Stage 3 - New Escalated "Path" to the Final Color Set With so many variables here (35 colors, 15+ edge spots, 8-10 denominations, traditional casino colors versus non-traditional colors, progression or not, etc.), literally millions, I think Ten’s taking on a formidable task with the administration of this contest. I’m not aware of anything of this nature that has even been attempted before. Ten has a proven track record, so I’m confident everything will work itself out. As many of you have pointed out, there are numerous ways to go about getting the “Best” chip color set, but which way works the best in a collaborative environment is anybody’s guess at this point. I think the process of figuring out which way works best is actually interesting in itself. Perhaps not as interesting as getting to the winning set, but interesting nonetheless. Aside from a little more time spent discussing chip colors and preferences, I don’t see the harm in trying it a couple of ways. And in my experience time spent upfront in the planning phase always pays off with a better result. Ultimately, the designers that want to gravitate towards their own colors with their inlays will have that opportunity. This contest is fundamentally about laying out all the conceivable options on the table and letting the community sort out what it likes and doesn’t like. It’s not about forcing designers to do something they don’t want to do. Still, to avoid the voting dilemma of “I like contestant A’s inlay better, but I like contestant B’s color scheme/spot progression, except for the 3rd and 6th denomination, which I like contestant C’s spots, etc.” (similar to the ‘bundle issue’ experienced in successfully picking the “best set of colors” here), it will be useful to isolate those two decisions (best colors and best inlay design). A nice default set of colors will be useful, which is my understanding of what Ten is getting to with this step. As an aside from the ultimate goal of getting a coherent set of chip colors in this step, I personally think it will be a really interesting exercise to see what people like individually for each denomination (from scratch - taking nothing else like chip progression nor any pre-conceived set edge spot for any particular chip into consideration). What are the top 3-4 color/edge-spot combos the group can come up with for a $5 chip? How about for the $25? And so on. Doesn’t mean we have to go with those colors, but it would be interesting to see the results. X-Files and Johnny5 created a great tool that makes this very simple for everyone to participate in just such an exercise, so why not take advantage of it? This site is called ChipTalk after all, not ChipResult, right? Have patience and enjoy the journey. |

Chips: 39,028 | | | Re: Protégé Stage 3 - New Escalated "Path" to the Final Color Set I think it's going to be impossible to avoid chaos completely. But let's try to minimize chaos while we pick a final color submission before going to inlays.
We are a "GO" on doing some final polls on a chip by chip basis, here are the assumptions: - Edge spot patterns will remain as they are in our set in the Original Post of this thread. We can talk about them later if we want to tweak.
- We'll leave the current $1 blue chip as-is.
- We will have a thread for each chip in the set, starting with the red $5 chip, oing up, then ending with a thread on the 25¢ chip.
my question: Do we want to nail down the body color, and then move to spot colors, or do both at once? | | | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
