Re: Protégé Stage 3 - Tweaking the Set

Rear of the set is in need of more work than the front of the set. I voted 5, 7, 8.
6 is ok.
1 through 4 are not perfect by any means, but the last four need color help big time.

Here's a question, do you all envision owning all of these denoms or do you see yourself getting mostly the bottom half vs. the top half?
I see a lot of unhappy votes on that 25. Just wondering.

Re: Protégé Stage 3 - Tweaking the Set

I'm really not liking anhy of the tri-colored spots. To me they are not the classy look we're going for. Complementary edgespots are more classy to me, ala the samuris.

For those of you scoring at home, I'm counting:
1 2 3 4
5 6 7 8

What about moving the arc yellow off the $25 (#4 - green) and substituting it for the pink spot on the $100 (#5 - black). Don't know what to use to replace it on the $25, but it does solve a couple of problems.

**EDIT** Examples with both Plum & Laker Purple

Just wondering.
I would probably only be getting the $5-$1,000 (tourney set), but if there's an additional NCV then I may add that and the 25¢ to get a cash set too. Pending budget approval of course.

Re: Protégé Stage 3 - Tweaking the Set

Ok, since it would be WAY too easy to just tweak-away to my hearts content I've restrained myself to as few a changes as possible.

First off, these chips have no unity. Nothing ties them together. There is no edgespot (logical) progression, and none of the colors are shared from chip to chip.

Before anything is done, this needs to be addressed IMO.

Either all the chips share a common color (white is nice) or the edgespots go from 2 to 3 to 4 to 2+2 to 3+2 to 4+2, etc.

But here are my initial impressions:

Chip #1 - (25¢?) Can live with it. Would prefer a gray or pink body for this off denom, but what the heck, it could be worse. I would like to see an edgespot color that "jumps out" a little more against the tan rather than brown.

Chip #2 - ($1?) Best one here. But then again isn't that a Wynn chip with 3 spots instead of 4? Like it, it can stay just the way it is. It LOOKS like a $1 chip.

Chip #3 - ($5?) OK for edgespots, but again "elegant" doesn't have to mean BORING. Give it a little life, use the REAL red for the body, or if the blood red must stay, then give the edgespots some pop.

Chip #4 - ($25?) Hate that lime green. Change the body to dark green, and I'll live with the edgespots.

Chip #5 - ($100?) Just doesn't fit. This should be the NCV chip edgespot pattern. I don't mind the chip at all, this is the "pop" I was referring to with edgespot colors, but just don't do it to a staple like the $100 chip please!

Chip #6 - ($500?) Not bad, if the base color is "PURPLE" and not BLURPLE, I can live with this one.

Chip #7 - ($1000?) LUCKY BEE. LUCKY BEE. Make it stop. I'm not the first to say it, but I'll say it again. LUCKY BEE.

Chip #8 - ($5000 or NCV?) Not the worst of the bunch, but at least this one uses colors that go together to make a nice subdued combination. Since I've said enough already, I'll let this one go as is, except to suggest taking a look at how much nicer this combo looks if you swap the 1/4" dark with the 1/2" light edgespots. At least I think it looks better that way.

Wow, Burn....um, no man. Looks like a cotton candy carnival exploded on those chips dude.

Ten, I didn't mean to start a whole posting of chip suggestions. I just wanted to demonstrate a couple of color changes. Hope this doesn't send us back to square 1.

Re: Protégé Stage 3 - Tweaking the Set

This is more of the "tweaks" I was thinking about...

Not perfect by any means, but at least trying to get the voted for set pointed in a direction that makes sense.
