Protege Contestant #11: 9_baller

Here is my initial submission. For some reason, I am having difficulty capturing a screen shot with the 'view all' feature. I followed the instructions, perhaps I'm missing something?

This first post represents the "original submission" only, and enables the initiation of the discussion thread on this chip submission. This thread now belongs to 9_baller, and he may use his first post within this tread to post updates/changes to his submission, which will ultimately be the design of his that gets submitted into the voting rounds on July 17th.

Feedback, comments, & constructive criticism encouraged!

Simple and elegant. Although I would choose a more ornate font for the numbers.

I see 2 problems though:

1. You run in to direct competition with the Poker Tourny Paulson chipset

2. You alienate people buying for cash games, unless they flat out love the colors/edge spots.

I can see where you'll want to go back and fix some things, but you're off to a really good start here. With some work on the typography, you could really have a classy design -- and I like the screened-back script text. Nice touch -- elegant while still being subtle.

Great job!

Re: Protege Contestant #11: 9_baller

Here's another take. I took into account the wording of "tourrnament" and just changed it to "poker" ,but I'd like to hear which one people feel most comfortable with. I also picked a less sterile font (which, IMO,looks more appropriate for the design).

The extra $25 dollar chip is a more "aged" or "sepia tone" take(which is starting to grow on me)

Please let me know what you think. I'm open to critisms/suggestions.

Font weights

One quick design note -- if you're going to enlarge the starting and ending letters in either "Poker" or "Tournament," make sure to use a lighter font weight. You want them all to look like they've got the same degree of "boldness," but when you enlarge a font, you proportionally enlarge the apparent weight as well. If you don't have tight control over font weight (and unless you're using multiple-master typefaces, you probably don't), try just making the interior letters bold and the framing outside letters standard. Nine times out of ten, that'll give you the result you want.

I prefer Poker and would go with that.

Wonder if you could incorp. the lined globe from the gen'l discussion of ideas thread and still get the script to be highlighted enough.
