Re: Epiphany Contestant #1: Diablo_Rojo

Hey Diablo,

My 2 cents - love the native american theme. I'm out in Washington, so very familiar with it. I think some of the center gradients may detract from the boldness of the designs in the center of the chip though, particularly those that are dark in the center rather than lighter - The center animal designs are great - I'd try to emphasize these somehow. Maybe move gradients closer to the edge or at the outer loop edge? Anyway, great work - love the $25 fish/shark...

JB

Re: Epiphany Contestant #1: Diablo_Rojo

I think they look good overall. Great concept and very original. Two suggestions:

1. The chips look a little too busy. This might be because of the complexity of the design, or because of the bold colors. My concern would be telling the chips apart when multiple denominations are in the pot. Consider simplifying the design or muting the colors a bit.

2. The $5 chip looks crowded. The denomination and graphic on the inlay seem to be fighting for space.

My two cents. Great job!

My first real attempt at gradients. I had to do some thinking about how I could make it work.

Perhaps I should make the gradient more diffuse and make the base color more predominant vs the secondary color. The 25cent actually is more the effect I was looking for. Some how some of the secondary colors received more emphasis than the base colors on some of the other chips.

I don't think differentiated the chips in a multi denomination pot should be an issue.
Realistically one shouldn't have more than 3 denominations in their stacks, and I think the base colors are different enough.

I see what you mean. I would like to offset the denomination a little , I think it may look out of place compared to the rest of the set.

Thanks for the suggestions.
BTW jblazer where in Washington?

I would like to see the animals in the center bigger and the denoms smaller. The gradient looks good on the .25, 100 and 5, I would try to make the other gradients more like these so its fading into the color on the outside edge.

I think this is actually a step back, I removed the gradient. I thought I'd just post this for comparison sake

Totally agree... the gradiant is pretty key to the look of these! I was wondering if it might help the business in the center if you moved the diamonds from the inner circles edge out some.... just thinking out loud!

Yeah the diamonds are kind of riding the circle. I might be able to move them back a little. I'm not sure how I'm going to do that just yet

Re: Epiphany Contestant #1: Diablo_Rojo

ok I made some tweaks.
1. I made the Totems larger
2 I repositioned the denominations and the totems.
3. I made the gradients uniform for all denominations
(outer diamond color fading to the base)
4 revised 6/9/07 moved diamond race track off the inlay

Re: Epiphany Contestant #1: Diablo_Rojo

The revision is awesome. The new gradient really works. I got to agree with Wooly about spacing the diamonds evenly between the inner and outer circles. Having the denom in the lower half is more common and thus looks more natural to me. My two pence.

You have to get Ranman's opinion on these. He is more of a southwestern guy, but he is into all native American art.
