Much as people of African-American heritage may use the 'n' word in their intra-cultural communication, it is not unusual for people of Asian American descent to use terms within their communications with others of the same ethnic background that may be considered ethnic epithets if used by people outside of their culture. As for 'Oriental' ... I don't think I've heard anyone use that term in 25 years! . You must be a native Canadian (i.e. native born, not an immigrant) to be using words like that . "Negro .vs African?" Did I just step into a time-machine and go back 40 years? You're making me feel old!

BTW. I am Oriental, so let me know so next time someone calls me Oriental, I can punch him in the face if term is a racial slur nowadays.

Almost native. I was 7 years old. I hate these language police. Names such as Chinaman' Peak had to be change. By the same standard's, Englishman's Bluff should be change too.

Re: Why I hate the Luxor...

reading the early post.,

i stayed at Excalibur and walked the strip collecting these. never had a problem anywhere went to the main cage and got racks went and sat down at the sports book if they had it and walked back up and cashed the oddies out.

i played at the mirage and was up big on the table and asked for a 5,25,100 plus my cashout and they glady handed me all of what i asked for and said we hope we see you again.

luxor i hated those old chipco chips they do have some really neat markings on them. i really like there new ones though!!!!! never had a problem asking the dealer for a some 1dollars???? weird. maybe they just had a bad day?

anyways hope you got better luck next time.

Re: Why I hate the Luxor...

Here is how I get any $1 chip from a casino. Go to a craps table, place a line bet (5 or 10 I don't play the big tables) and then toss a 5 in the middle and say "Two way one dollar yo" you will get 3 ones back and the crew will thank you.

All bets in the middle are one dollar minimum bets, no matter what the table stakes are.

For the craps noobs (like me) what is "Two way one dollar yo?" Bet for the crew?

Sorry about that..
a two way is slang for you and the dealers.
A three way is you, the dealers and the shooter.
Saying "one for the table" or "the boys" is a bet for the dealers.

So a two way "yo" is a bet on the the number 11 (a yo) for both you and the dealers. Dealers are happy that you are placing a bet for them, and will be more than happy to keep you supplied with 1 dollar chips so you can keep on tiping them.

You can also just give the chip and say. "put it in the box" and they will drop it into the tip box.

On another note, a craps table (at low stakes, that I play) needs 1 dollar chips. So I am at a loss what B.S. the dealer or boxman was giving on the OP. At a 5 dollar table the minimum bet on a 6 or an 8 is 6 dolars. How do you make a 6 dollar bet without 1's.

Re: Why I hate the Luxor...

Just got back from Vegas over the weekend and I picked up $1 chips from about 20 or so casinos. I played poker one of the nights until 2am at Binions then walked Fremont Street to pick up chips and the only casino that wouldnt sell me a chip was the Golden Gate, It seemed pretty dumpy and Im pretty shocked they wouldnt sell me a chip. It was easy everywhere else as most of the casinos had open tables that late at night and I just went up to the dealer and asked for one at each casino.

As a sidenote I played at the Luxor, and it wasn't a nice looking room like the Wynn and Bellagio but the players were pretty terrible and I ended up making about $300 in 4 hours there.

Re: Why I hate the Luxor...

Re: Why I hate the Luxor...

I've bought chips from the cage at the Luxor a couple of times without a problem. You probably got the wrong cashier. I've purchased chips at every casino in Vegas that has $1 chips. Try to pick a cashier that looks friendly. A couple of weeks ago, I went to the Bellagio to see the Asian garden. I asked at the cage if they had new chips and tried to purchase a rack. The guy I got told me they had new chips but were prohibited from selling racks. I tried another cashier and the poker room and left with four uncirculated racks. I tried to purchase more last weekend and all have now been on the tables. Don't take no for an answer.

Re: Why I hate the Luxor...

Also - the MGM grand when it first opened had an entrance which was a lion's open mouth that you walked into in order to get inside. The MGM found out the hard way that this represented defeat or something like that in some Asian circles, so it was apparently keeping some asian players from either using that entrance or going into the MGM.

Imagine spending $1 BILLION on a casino that you are targeting (among many ethnic groups) Asian players also and then finding this out the hard way. Anyway a couple of years later they figured this out and replaced the entrance.

I bet now they also consider factors like this in their chip designs too. Don't want to spend $1Billion + and then lose customers over something that you have overlooked
