I'm thinking of creating the world's largest chip catalog....
Are you talking casino chips or poker chips? If casino - you'll have some big competition out there as many CCGTCC members have created some very intensive chip sites out there already. But if for poker chips, then I'd say there is still some room for more.
I've even have my own collection web site that I created a few years ago:

Nice collection. What's the deal with the $8 chips? How are they useful?
The $8 chips are a special denom that I like collecting. They are generally all Chinese New Year chips as the number 8 is the lucky number in Asian countries (as opposed to the number 7 in the US).
Not sure they are useful in any other way other than they are unique to a specific event.
Thanks for the compliment on the chip site - its been an on-going thing. I just farmed a bunch more chips last weekend from the Colorado casinos in Central City and Black Hawk. Some new poker rooms opened up and some new chips came along with it. Had to catch up on some of the new chip releases. Will have to spend some time to scan in the new chips and tokens and post em soon.
The number 8 in Chinese is sounds like the word prosperous, that is why the Chinese consider it a lucky number.
Another lucky No. is 13, = "sure life"
A unlucky No. is 14 = "sure death" you won't find a 14th fl. in Hong Kong, same idea as a 13th fl. here.
In Hong Kong the Government auctions off auto license plates with certain lucky No. and I heard that the one with a single 8 went for a million bucks, the money went to charity.
Wish I knew that they the New Year chips, I would have tried to get some.

Well don't fret - they come out with new ones every year! There must be over a dozen or more Nevada casinos that issue Chinese New Year chips each year. They are usually low in mintage and sometimes only give them out to "preferred" Asian customers. But if you look out on eBay during January and February you can usually find a lot of them for sale.
