Why do I "collect" chips?

Why are you so into chips?

Me, I have no idea.. I don't use all of them! sell them? hell no, you crazy, its part of my collection. I do like having a game and using them, and its really cool when others appreciate how awesome they are.

Why am I so anxiously waiting for that Memorial Day Sale? Ay ay ay ay ay!

Please elaborate. Somebody please explain. Does it have to do with my childhood? Is my life so awesome that I just had to find something different to do, or am I filling a hollow void? Do I want to feel like a casino owner? What makes chips so cool? LOL...

PS i do not think its a bad thing.

Chips do the same to me than Purgatory souls to Castiel. THEY TURBOBOOST ME UP!

Re: Why do I "collect" chips?

I wouldn't really call us 'collectors' because the chips we buy will eventually get sold to buy more chips. We're more like chip 'keepers' or chip 'renters' rather than collectors.

Re: Why do I "collect" chips?

Actually, I'm more than a little surprised that there's not some underground chip ponzi scheme floating around here. "Make millions! Invest now at the ground level!"

I have way more chips than I could possibly ever need in several lifetimes, and at the same time, find myself quite helpless to avoid aquiring even more on a weekly basis.

I guess that's why my friends call me a chipoholic, plaqueophile, and cardset addict. They don't know about the dealer button collection....

Who will be the first to descend so far into depravity that he rips the zippers out of his jeans and replaces them with dealer button flies?

People do odd things for their obsessions. For instance, every street and track car I''ve owned in the last 45 years has had a 13 (pool) ball for a shift knob.

Re: Why do I "collect" chips?

I see a new show for Lifetime Network

"Chip Hoarders"

Just like the Hoarder's show expect touring people's chip collections. Watch as they take tiny steps and are forced to some samples, setups and a couple dealer buttons moving up to selling an actual whole set.

Fellow poker players will be on hand helping them cope with their OC condition.

I just crossed the 8500 chip threshold which seems a little excessive from an outsider viewpoint and a little on the low side from a talker POV.

Re: Why do I "collect" chips?

Most of my chip buying was prolly to fill a void in my life, I'll be honest. I have a bunch that need new homes, and hopefully someday I will have time to sell. That said, I will always own nice sets, and am very thankful that I never have to use cheap chips again
