How to get single chips from a casino

Hi everybody,

I am new to this website and chip collecting. I was wondering if anyone could give me advice on how I could go about getting a single chip that I have been looking for from a casino. I am a huge Mohegan Sun fan (it was the first casino I ever went to once I became legal to play (I'm 22 now) and I now play there most of the time) and I want to collect all of their house chips just as personal mementos.

I was actually looking online and stumbled upon another thread on this website that showcased some great $10 and $20 chips from Mohegan Sun and the thread said they were used exclusively in the poker room. I have never played poker in a casino before and am not sure if I am ready to do so.

So my conundrum is how would I go about purchasing one of each of these chips from Mohegan Sun. I was reading yet another thread where a user said to just go to the cages in a casino and buy and rack and then pick some out and sell them back, but at $10 and $20 X 100 chips I definitely do not want to bring several thousand dollars to lay out while I browse through a rack.

Can I go to the cage in the poker room and buy just one chip of each, or would I be laughed out of the place. Thank you for any advice.

Here is a picture I took from the other thread of the chips.

I'd say go to the cage. Tell them you would like one of each to collect and push over $35.

I'd say chances are good they would look for them in nice condition as well

JM frequents Mohegan Sun so he might already have some nice ones for you. He got me a snapper.

If not go to the poker room cage when it is not busy and tell them it is for a collection and ask them nicely for the best ones they have. If you are super nice they might find some uncirculated ones for you. If they do take the time to dig around and find you a good one then you should consider tipping.

Re: How to get single chips from a casino

JM is someone here on chiptalk. I don't think it would be a problem buying a chip or 2 from the cage. You can tell them exactly what you are doing and some of them will probably help you find one in nice condition. They'll make money with the chips that you keep. They may have a problem if you walk out with a rack of $.25 chip and some casino closely guard their $2 or $4 chip.

Also the thread that you read about getting a rack to sort through, is probably a rack of $1, that are heavily used at the tables. $10 & $20 are not as commonly used, so there's no need for that.

Good luck!

Re: How to get single chips from a casino

Go to the cage and ask if you could buy said chips for you collection. If you mention you're a collector, they'll usually search for ones in the best condition. When i was at Harrahs in LV, there was a case of all the $5 collectable chips available for purchase, so I'm sure most casinos know that people collect chips and deal with requests like that on a daily basis.

I have also had success in the pits by going to an empty table (off hours of course) the pit boss and dealer have always been happy to riffle thru the set up to find clean sharp chips.
