Most expensive/rarest poker chip(s) ever?

Sorry if this is in the wrong place but this just popped into my head. I'm not a collector (yet), but I love thinking about the biggest this, the most expensive that, etc, etc. Does anyone have any information on the most expensive/rarest poker chip or chips ever sold? I'm fascinated by this stuff and was just curious about the poker chip side of sales and collecting.

Are you talking chips that are available in playable sets, ie vineyard $500 or like old single chips, like a 1st issue?

This subject is a little broad in my opinion. Maybe someone else can chime in here.

For collectible singles, check Jim Campiglia's book--IIRC the most expensive chips involve the Sands original rack (like around $100,000 per chip). I think there's a note that if higher denoms were found from The Flamingo during Ben Siegel's era, they would probably compete for the most expensive chip.
Every now and then Motor Trend features a car that's been sitting in a garage, barn, or even a scrap yard that's worth millions once restored. But they just sat there for decades because people didn't know what they had. We see the same thing with chips from time to time (like the Showboat chip last year) and it's cool to think there's more super-rare chips out there just waiting to come out of the old shoe box.

I have a Dunes Commemorative $5 chip with a $1 inlay sticker. I think it's worth something on the order of $10-$12K.

I would say probably not ones that are in playable sets. I'm talking more like old chips or chips that should always be kept in protective cases, something like that.

Not sure if I'll get burnt at the stake for saying this, but in my opinion chiptalk focuses more on playable sets. For single, or individual chips, check out thechipboard.com Those guys are individual chip junkies!

Yeah Tony - you're fired.

I have never heard of a chip going for anywhere near $100K. Not saying it hasn't happened but I can't remember anything on that scale. There was a very good condition Showboat "wheel" chip that sold for $29K on ebay a few years ago. I also think I remembering something about a private deal where a chip sold for $49K. I can't remember the details of the transaction though or what sort of chip it was.

Wasn't there a Showboat Casino $1 chip that sold for $37,000 last year. Not the most ever, but made for an exciting watch.

I have a crystal park $1 chip sitting in an old box. I'd sell it for $100,000 if anyone's interested.
