Story is I bid on a 16th issue $100 Dunes Chip. My max bid was $7 which I back than thought it's pretty much.
When I checked the auction back the chip went for $23!!!
Is that sick? I think so.
The next day I recieved a second offer from the seller, the price is my initial bid of $7.
Obviously I might be a good shot to be patient sometimes and not get involved is the common ebay bidding terror.
Something sounds fishy about that. This means that the first two bidders would have to default. Do you think they were shilling? Pricing has been between $8.50 and $15.50 (without shipping) over the past month. Given the condition, this should be on the high end of the range, but $23 is a bit high.

That's not true - you can send a second chance offer to anyone who bid on the item. If a seller has more than one of an item it is a great way to move them quickly. I used to do it with the ipods I was selling. Any bid over an amount that I decided was "Good" I would send the second chance offer to. The difference is that it is up to the bidder if they want to take it Vs. the winning bid which is supposed to be binding.

BTW - good score on the chip assuming you get it

I didn't realize that... whenever I have received second chances, it has been with rather unique items. In this case, because the chip was in uncirculated condition, I guess it would make sense that the seller would have a bunch of them. Of course, now that he has tipped his hand, we know how much he is willing to sell for (if this is the case).
Nice score! I had this happen to me last week on a plaque I was bidding on. The price nearly tripled in the last few minutes but I still got a second chance offer for my original bid. Worked out nicely.
