Chips: 80 | | | What's the deal with the sudden rash of Atlantic City Playboy chips on e-Bay? There's got to be 30 auctions up right now, most of which have sucky pictures of chips in them. Was there some warehouse in Mississippi that got broken into that had a bunch of these sitting around?
These chips seem to have a good value to them, but the market's FLOODED right now. What gives? Anyone know the story behind these? Pretty darned cool edges and faces on them. I'm ASSuming they're Bud Jones, just haven't seen anything like that in my travels.
Any info would be great.

Chips: 511 | | | Re: What's the deal with the sudden rush of Atlantic City Playboy chips on e-bay? That seems to be the question right now. There are even some posted in the M2M's as we speak. I would like to get a sample set as they have always been appealing to me but there is a LOT of speculation going on right now in the collectable chipping community as far as authenticity and whatnot goes. As some of the chips appear to be the chips that were in play in the casino, they are still redemable and basically live chips as far as the NJ Gaming Commision is concerned (AC law). The backup chips can not be redemed but are/were highly collectable.
Check out all the posts over on thechipboard regarding the issue as they are the experts but this seems to be a big question mark in the chipping world right now.

Chips: 2,986 | | | Re: What's the deal with the sudden rush of Atlantic City Playboy chips on e-bay? Ya, this is just screwy. You've got one seller with a single chip for a BIN of $300, while you've got another seller with a nearly playable set of 200 (including 6 of that "$300" chip, and dozens of chips that that have individual BINs of > $50)... I don't get it.
They're nice looking chips. I'd love a sample set (2 x $1, 2 x $2.50, 2 x $5, 2 x $25, 2 x $100, 1 x $500). But I don't know if a sample set is worth $767, $100, or $10...

Chips: 80 | | | Re: What's the deal with the sudden rush of Atlantic City Playboy chips on e-bay? Yeah...how'd he even get enough chips to post in the v-classifieds? I suppose he could pay $$$ for it.
This whole thing is just wacky...especially if they're still 'live' as couga suggests. I'm not sure who the hell would accept them at a cage, but the thought is funny! Show up at a cage in a leisure suit/parachute pants (u choose) and tell them you just got off a time machine and want to know if they're still using these chips at the 'Playboy'.
I'll have to keep an eye on this thread and check out the chipboard for more info...

- Why are there so many of these chips on ebay? Did somebody come into a huge lot of them and has recently flooded the market? Are they being produced again by some company in China or the USA?
- Any idea on the quantities of these? Mind telling us how many you have? How you acquired them? It's hard to spend $100 for a set of 10 chips that might likely drop in value to $10 once the answers to some of these questions are known.

| It is my understanding that the NJ gaming commission only back chips that were used in play. So the primary rack can be redeemed for face value with them. You would have to go to the NJ gaming offices to redeem the chips (you can't redeem at a cage) but if they are legit then you can do it, although I wouldn't want to walk in there and try with chips that you were not 100% sure were legit. The backup or secondary rack was never put in play and therefore can not be cashed in.

- Couga | Exactly. So if these chips are legit... Notice that the 200-chip set on ebay (pictured above) contains 20 of one type of $100's and 40 of the other type (I'm not sure which is primary) and thus must be worth > $2000 based on those chips alone... not to mention all the $25s (both types), $5s (both types) and a few $500s - which might not have been in play, but someone else wants $300 each for them.
Seems suspicious that everybody is so eager to dump these at the same time. |

I am really hopeing that this was just a big find (like all the previously rare horseshoes we are seeing now one at a time on eBay) and the chips are legit but like with all things, buy at your own risk.

Chips: 408 | | | Re: What's the deal with the sudden rush of Atlantic City Playboy chips on e-bay? I'd be very careful with these chips. Bad pictures, low ebay rating... one of the sellers of these chips is selling a bootleg iPHONE that he's calling the hiPHONE . Come on now seller! Try a little harder not to mix up your bootleg stuff with the stuff you're trying to pass off as legit. The only way I see these as being legit is if they're stolen. This is my opinion, and I'm stickin to it . |
