Chips: 65 | | | Casino cash set questions... This sickness i have of collecting chips has given me a fever and even more cowbells isn't the cure! I had purchased a large set of Mardi Gras clays for a cash set not too long ago and loved them. After seeing the potential of putting together some real casino cash sets, however, that is the direction i would like to go.Here are a couple of questions i need help with.As far as price,is it generally $1 a chip for a true $1 chip?In other words, how much markup will i be facing? Are my Mardi Gras chips even desired anymore?I know they are older chips and i was a newbie seeing them at the end of their road.In your cash games, how many denoms do you normally have? Finally, give me your thoughts on some chips readily available that would make a great set.Thank you all |

Chips: 1,101 | | | Re: Casino cash set questions... What cash game stakes do you play? That will help to decide which denoms to include. We play micro-cash .05/.10 as well as .25/.50 most often so I have .05 and .25 chips in my set for micro games with $1s as the big chip. When playing $1/2 or $1/3 I use lots of $1s and $5s mainly with a few $20 or $25s thrown in.
As for what is desirable, that's in the eyes of the beholder. Quote:

Chips: 65 | | | Re: Casino cash set questions... It's a small group, usually 7-10.We normally do .25/.50 NL.I was wondering if i just needed a .25,.50,$1 and maybe a few $5s for the denoms.Or throw in some $2,$2.50,or $3s?It's too much!Jamby, you in my opinion are one of the major chip officianados here.In your opinion, can i move the Mardis or will i end up having to keep them?Again, thanks for your help. Now,if you want to trade your newly purchased Plazas for the Mardis ....i'm open for a discussion. |

Chips: 1,101 | | | Re: Casino cash set questions... LOL. Thank you very much for your kind words. No, I'm afraid that I wouldn't be interested in trading. As for moving them, you should probably ask that of a follower of the Mardi Gras line, which I am unfortunately not. If you still dig them though and can afford it, I say keep them and add a different set to the mix. I like .25, $1 and $5 for our .25/.50 game. .50 chips are a waste of money for that game and if I had .50s I'd probably just make it a .50/1 game instead. I love $3 chips and included them in my most recent custom set. Nothing like a $1/3 game simulating low-stakes play at the Wynn and Venetian. Brings back great memories of the Sin City Showdown. I understand the desire not to have the .50 chips, I just personally like them. For whatever reason I like having two fractionals. If I could have gotten the snapper hotstamped I would have probably done that instead, but it wasn't an option.
Good luck with your set. The Mardi Gras are nice chips, unfortunately I don't need another tourney set or cash set.

Casino fractionals - in my experience - are way too expensive since they are somewhat difficult to get out of the casinos, especially chips that are in decent shape. In fact, I think there are only a handful of current casinos that have them in play.
Good luck unloading your Mardis Gras I'm sure there are people out there that want them. Didn't they recently go out of production? That might boost the value a bit...

However, generally speaking, current, new, $1 rack or house chips retail for about $3 in a quantity of 1. In a rack of 100, they will run about $130 - $140, or $1.30 or so each.
Good luck,
