Chips: 319 | | | E-Bay second chance questions Last night, I was bidding on a Wynn $8 Chinese New Year chip.
I didn't win, my max bid was the same as the winning bidder.
Withing minutes of the end of the auction, I received a second chance offer to buy at that price. That seemed to awful quick.
Either he had multiple chips or there was collusion with another bidder.
My bid original bid was $12, and it sold for $14.50. After my bid was exceeded two hours before the auction ended, I was trying to feel out how high the bidding was. If I won, great, if not then no harm done.
My questions are:
A) Was there a helper for the seller driving up the price so that it could be sold higher or offered to me at the higher price?
and
B) Did the seller have multiple chips, and was trying to get the price higher?
Now the best part:
The seller has the same chip listed with a Buy It Now price of $12.99.

Chips: 319 | | | Re: E-Bay second chance questions He does have multiples, cuz I just bought his batch of the last three years.
I am thinking more of a shill because of the way the bidding happened.
It was the chip with the cute puppy from two years ago.

I've seen other seller do that they would have BIN and the same item for bids. It's pretty common. |

I used his BiN for the three chip set and got two extra chips for the cost of 1.5 chips at the price of the second chance.

Chips: 18,370 | | | Re: E-Bay second chance questions I say multiple chips for sale. I used to send second chance offers all the time when I was selling ipods on Ebay. As long as the price for the second chance offer gave me a decent margin I sent it. It gives the seller a potential buyer who is definitely interested in the item and is probably upset or annoyed that they lost the auction.

Chips: 232 | | | Re: E-Bay second chance questions I had an eBay 'No Chance' offer today.
I did a 'buy it now' for a lot of 4 knives, paid with paypal, then received a message from the seller that there was an 'ebay foul up' and that the price was for 1 knife.
felt a little like a bait and switch, but they promptly refunded my money. |

Yours sounds even more fishy.

Chips: 10,807 | | | Re: E-Bay second chance questions Shill bidding for a dollar or two is not worth it. Taking advantage of the second chance offer makes excellent sense to a seller who has more than one of an item (which is very likely) because it represents a quick turn around without waiting days for a new listing to end.
