Chip Collectors Guides

Howdy Folks,

I have a question regarding the 2 main chip collectors guides that frequently get mentioned on this site (Campiglia, and the other one in which the authors name is escaping me). What percentage of the chips in the guide have decent color photos with them??

I am working on a chip design project (more on this later) and I want to see as many photos of classic chip inlays and edge spot combinations as I can while I try and design these chips. The main idea for this project is a classic Las Vegas chip design (Dunes, Sands etc, and even MGM Grand/Bellagio). I have been looking at some of the resources online (here and on every site that Google kicks up) but can rarely find a complete series of chip designs in one place. If one of these guides can give me the photos I think it would be easier for me to complete some of this project, instead of skimming a million sites for a look at one or two chips.

Any info is appreciated,

Dan

Re: Chip Collectors Guides

Campiglia and Wells has lots of pics, but not complete by any means.

For good eye candy, check these out:

Nevada Chip Pictures
Las Vegas Casino Chips Museum - Las Vegas Casino Chips, Poker Chips, Slot Cards, Hotel Room Keys, & History

The other guide you are thinking of (the Queen mother of Vegas price guides) is the Chip Rack. Lots of values and other pertinent info, but not a pic to be found.

Hope these help. I know they have helped with my designs.

Edit: BTW, MGM Grand and the Bellagio are nice, simple chips, but I wouldn't classify them as "classic". The Grands are actually one of my favorites, but as you start poking around, particularly the first link, you'll see the older chips have very simple, almost plain, inlays. The older stuff primarily have hot-stamps. It'll be interesting to see what you come up with.

Re: Chip Collectors Guides

Thanks AlbinoDragon, I appreciate the response.

The main thing is to get an idea of what color combinations work. This is the one part of chip designing that I have very little ability in. I have some basic color requirements and some progression ideas am finding it difficult to design a set of chips that says "This is it". If this guide has some photos of a specific series of chips and a variety of edge spot combinations thoughout the guide it will probably be worth the pick up.

In regards to the Bellagio and MGM, I mentioned them because it may turn out that an inlay inspired from a modern casino and an old school hot stamp will be the end result of this project. I agree they are classy chips but the casinos aren't classic, I guess I just didn't know how to mention them.

Thanks again.

Dan
