Binion's WSOP chip question

I was going through some pictures and I realized that I've wanted to ask this question for some time. Does anyone know why they used these chips along with some black inlay coin in center type chips during the WSOP?

Re: Binion's WSOP chip question

I don't understand your question. Why?

I was told that those chips were in fact the tournament chips made for and used at Binion's in the 1995 WSOP (at least that year, I don't know about others).

These are different from the buy-in chips won during satellites.

Re: Binion's WSOP chip question

the 5-5000 were paulsons and the the 10,000's and up were budjones metal inlay chips. they used these chips from early 90's to 2003, this is the chip.

they just mixed the chip makes, they made the 5000 chip budjones a lil after so if you have a paulson 5000, most likely from early 90's.

they changed it around 99-00 im sure. the 5's were used as antes then they took them out, and just had the 25's and up, the ($5)25's -5000 were paulsons and 10,000 and up were bud jones pre 99 and the 25-1000's were paulsons still but the 5000 and up were bud jones post 99-00.

if you need fact, just watch the 2003 wsop. and watch previous wsop final tables in the 90's

but those chips above, 95-1999(the 5000 changed)-2003.
then the chips became all bud jones, then all paulson year 07.

Re: Binion's WSOP chip question

These are not coin inlay chips. They are black inlays with gold writing.

Noel, that's a very good question. I know that Anthony(akslcdv) or Ross would know the answer your question, but I'll take a stab at it.

My guess would be that the starting stacks for the events have increased and the event was getting bigger with more participants. That could be the reason for introduction these high value chips.

I believe the $10,000 DAACEIZBACK posted was used in the mid to last 90s. There is an orange $10,000 Bud Jones chips that was used in the early 90s, I don't have a scan of it right now to so you.

Anthony has a site the showed all the main event chips and the time period that was used, but the site does not seems to be working right now. I'll pm him and see if he can chime in.

I was told that over the years the Horseshoe replaced some of the higher denomination chips because too many had gone missing and they were afraid they would show up in a subsequent year. There could be other reasons but I'm not aware of any.

The lower denomination tournament chips ($25 & $100) from Noelsarchs picture were used from the mid 80s all the way up to 2003. When Harrahs took over in 2004 they made a whole new rack of chips that were used for 1 year. Then in 2005 the event moved to the RIO and another new rack was made.

The first higher denomination chips that the Horseshoe relaced were in the early 90s when they introduced new $1000, $5000 & $10000 chips.

From that point on several chips ranging from the $500 denomination up to the $10000 denomination were replaced. The first $25000 chip was introduced in 2003. It was only used for 1 year.
