Help me try to narrow down...

I want to begin collecting individual clay chips since I won't be buying a playable set any time soon, and I'm not sure how I want to go about it. I was toying with the idea of just collecting individual fantasy and casino chips that I like, but that could get crazy pretty fast.
I'm not even sure which direction I'm leaning at the moment. Definitely considering only 43mm chips, but then I'd miss out on quite a few that I really like. Although I feel that a lot of responses will basically say collect what you like, nobody can tell you what to collect, I'm open to any suggestions whatsoever about directions I could maybe go with this! For reference, here are some chips I really like a lot:

Ritz $1000 (43mm)
Vineyard $100 (43mm)
St. Jo's Frontier $5
Dunes $25

If I decided to collect just 43mm chips, would that probably be much more expensive than collecting regular sized chips? Are there many 43mm's, or not really?
I definitely want this to be a collection with a goal, rather than just pick up a chip here and there because I like it- something that can be completed.

Re: Help me try to narrow down...

i'd recommend the Ritz as that was my first after much deliberation. However, the vineyard is very nice as well. if you visit my forum about which chip to collect first, you'll see that many people recommended the Ritz. After getting a hold of one, i'd have to recommend myself. however, as jamby stated in my thread, it's truly up to you as to what you like and what you'd like to collect. any of those chips are very nice to start, so choose wisely and good luck collecting

Re: Help me try to narrow down...

i wanted to go all 43mm at first too, but i think i plan to open my guidelines up and collect anything that suits my taste.

as for 43mms, there's a few, notably the Ritz $1000 and $500, the PNY $1000s, primary and secondary, and the Vineyards $100, primary and secondary. Of all of these, the PNY $1000 are the most expensive and hardest to come by

It sure can get crazy pretty fast! I wouldn't worry about it too much. Start to buy what you like, of course within reason. I say this, because you will probably change your focus a few times. I started with collecting chips that I won from casinos and then started collecting the $100 denoms. Now, I don't worry. I collect anything as long as I like it and its a reasonable price.

Can't go wrong with any of those chips you picked. Happy chippin'.

Re: Help me try to narrow down...

I started by saying the same thing... "I'm just going to collect 43mm chips", and "I'm just going to collect xxx casino's chips" but it did not work out that way. I have a few collections going, and I just build them slowly. Pick out a few areas and concentrate on them, whether its fantasy's or casino's or whatever. In the past few weeks, I've completed a few sample sets, and added another 43mm to my budding collection. Only pay what a chip is worth to you at the time. If it completes a set or is rare for that particular set, I may up my price, but I still take it slow. Good luck in choosing and building your chip sets! Don't forget to post up pictures with the progress.

-Dennis
