Ready to begin the collection...

Now that I have some decent sets of my own I want to start collecting individual chips. Two questions:

1) I want to keep it all one denomination to start ($1 or $5) any recommendations on which to go with (in relation to ease of acquiring)?

2) What is the best way to start acquiring individual chips without personally travelling to all the casinos (don't think this would fly with the missus)?

Stapes...

Welcome to the hobby! For right now I highly recommend the Sticky FAQ of this forum. Check it out. The short answer to your $1 vs. $5 question...

There are far more $1 chips waiting to be collected and, at a ratio of 5/1, in value, you get more bang for the buck with $1's.

Again, Welcome to the hobby!

You should check out M2M. There's a couple of people selling casino chips right now, Jim is one of them.

Re: Ready to begin the collection...

Stapes, I am in agreement with the good brother Jim wrt collecting $1s. I wish I had the discipline to settle down to a single specialty (though I am always on the lookout for rose- and motorcycle-themed chips, I'm a sucker for any pretty chip). But at least staying with (mostly) $1s keeps me from going completely broke.

Allow me to start you down the path of unrighteousness. If you PM me your mailing address, I'll send you a $1 from my collection.

Thanks for the offer...in fact I dove in right away with a 25 chip lot from Jim of mostly Vegas casinos. In addition to these I think I'm going to make it my goal to get at least one $1 from each state (provided they have a casino). Who knows what else...with my addictive personality this should be fun

Re: Ready to begin the collection...

It's really hard to say (for me anyway) I started my collection with a $5 LE and have since collected all denominations .
Now I collect chips which strike my fancy, regardless of the denomination.

Anyway you're travelling down a slippery slope

Good luck
