Chips: 10,507 | | | A ChipTalk Welcome to Smooth7... I'd like to welcome Jay, aka: Smooth7 to ChipTalk.net. Jay is a great guy and currently is very instrumental in helping the CC>CC run it's Annual Auction that takes place at the Annual Convention.
Jay also has a very nice collection of older Las Vegas chips and I am MOST envious of the fact that he has at least one, older Sands Casino chip (from the Hughes Nevada Operations ("HNO") days, which MUST be even more special because Jay's last name is "Sands"!!!
Talk about a personal chip!!!
Anyway, I'd like for everyone to Welcome Jay and and I'm sure he'll post a reply here just as soon as he figures out this complicated board!

As Jim knows...Jay & I have been friends for a number of years now, having met through the hobby. I have no doubt that Jay is leaving me that chip in his will. Unless of course I can ever nail one down on eBay.
Below is a scan of the Sands chip.

Chips: 10,507 | | | Re: A ChipTalk Welcome to Smooth7... What a remarkable chip!!!
A Christy & Jones, H&C molded chip in highly contrasting colors. A very popular casino name, in a town known for gaming (and a few other things) and the mystique of Howard Hughes (note the "H.N.O.") all rolled up into a tiny disk of paper and clay!
I love this chip! Valued at around $400 this is a very desirable chip! Thanks for the scan Andy!

Chips: 28 | | | Re: A ChipTalk Welcome to Smooth7... Thanks for the welcome everyone! I just joined a couple of days ago and I've been wandering around the Collector's Corner section. I love the format and I'll do my best to contribute.
Of course, that means doing some scanning, which I find to be a particularly abhorrent and time-consuming activity which I'd rather not do... but just for you guys I'll put together a few multi-chip scans of some neat chips.
I've been collecting casino chips for about 10 years and I concentrate on Nevada and California chips. I do have $1 collections from all over the place, but, frankly, I've lost interest in them and I'll be posting them for sale on a state-by-state basis over on The Chip Board maybe a week before the convention (in August) thus theoretically saving on postage, packaging and trips to the post office.
One of the things that I'm most interested in is following the chip sales market. I have an extensive database of auction results and I keep an eye on what's going on at the dealers' tables... so if you have any questions about chip values, please feel free to get in contact with me.
My collection is currently comprised of about 5,400 Nevada chips, 1,000 California chips, and about 1,600 from other states which hopefully will not be in my collection later this year. If you have any particular requests for scans of individual chips or groups of chips from a casino, I'll do my best. I do collect commemorative chips from a few casinos (Hard Rock, Rio, Palms and a few more), but generally it's house chips that interest me.
So, thanks again for the welcome. It's certainly a different look (and tone) than found at The Chip Board and I'm looking forward to contributing what I can.
On a personal note... Hughes, you're NEVER getting your mitts on my H.N.O. chip, and Jimmy, the prices on that one are very condition dependent, as they are on most higher-end chips. It's interesting that many, if not most, chips are found only in a single condition, but the Sands H.N.O. $5 is one that's found in conditions across the spectrum. The one that recently sold on eBay for about $450 was in pretty rough shape. I actually like the values in Campiglia and Wells for this one... $800 - $1500 - $2200. Mine's in slightly used condition and would probably go for about the middle value. |
