Chips: 1,127 | | | Commemorative Silver LV Tokens Does anyone collect these? I think they were most popular back in late 80s, early 90s (and could still be today).
They are .99999 pure silver and are 1 ounce each.
I unearthed 3 of them the other day that I had won back in early 90s. All three are from McCarren International Airport and each have a slightly different design. I won them with the last $20 I had just before departing Vegas(1991 or 92). I know at the time, each casino had a dedicated slot machine with these Silver Tokens, but don't recall seeing any on my last trip back in August
Do these have any value other than the pure silver content?
I will post pictures tonight if requested.
Any information would be greatly appreciated | | Sponsored Links | |

Chips: 10,805 | | | Re: Commemorative Silver LV Tokens Yes, they have value greater than melt content! Note however that only the center coin is silver. Outer ring is brass alloy. McCarran had many versions and some are valued at $15 and others are over several hundred dollars!!
If you can post scans/pictures of both sides, I'll be able to give you an estimate of value. If you want to do more research on your own, visit this website: http://www.silverstrikers.com/
They are called Silver Strikes and they are only dispensed from specific Silver Strike slot machines. The machines are leased from IGT and strikes are only available through the IGT Silver Strike Program. That website lists where Silver Strike machines are located and also has a catalog (not a price guide) of all Silver Strikes ever released.
There is also an affiliated Message Board for collectors at: http://www.thestrikepoint.com/cgi-bin/tsp/tsp.pl
Lastly, try not to open the cases, even to make scans. If you do, DO NOT touch the surfaces, this can only affect value in a negative way.

Thanks for all the great information.
I will need to post scans or pictures this evening since I didn't see the ones I have on silverstriker's website. They all (mine) have the common side with what I assume is the airport logo (like all shown on web site) but couldn't match any of the reverse side.....don't know if this is a good or bad....hopefully mine are of the rarer kind (I can dream can't I).
These have never been out of there Airtite containers.

Chips: 908 | | | Re: Commemorative Silver LV Tokens I have a small collection of silver strikes. Some we won on our trips and a few I've purchased on ebay. Most recently, the casinos where we found the special slot machines were MGM Grand, Aladdin, Palms and Las Vegas Club. Those are the ones with the gold ring around them. I have a large one from the Sands that I got on ebay (or maybe Harlequin got it for me, I can't keep track anymore!) that is larger than these slot machine type strikes and does not have the gold accent. It's not in the best shape (a little scratched up), but it's still pretty neat, being that it's from the Sands.
If you look on ebay for them, there is usually a pretty good variety available. |

I'll have to check tonight when I get home from work. I'm fairly certain that the rest of mine are the $10 variety. |

How ya doing? Say Hi to ole what's his name!
Just to make sure no one misunderstands, the "golden" ring around these coins are a brass alloy. Some are a copper alloy, but never gold.
However, some strikes do have gold cladding on the silver portion.
The Sands coin sound more like a slot machine token, than it does a Silver Strike, but I'd love to see a scan!
Silver Strikes come in $10, $28, $40 and $200 versions.

I'm sure you're probably right about the denomination/purpose of my Sands coin/token. I'll try to remember to dig it out tonight and post a scan or a pic. I wouldn't mind knowing some background information on it. It's larger than the typical silver strikes that come out of the slot machines, that's why I wasn't calling it a token (that, and I wasn't sure if that's what it was ). |
