Was browsing http://www.silver-state-treasures.com/ and noticed that every single chip from $1 - $100 from these 2 casinos are exactly the same!! Same colors and edgespots! I thought this was kind of weird. Wouldn't there be some sort of copyright issue with one of the casinos jacking the other casinos chip design? Anyone know what is up with the Bellagio and Mirage chips? Who copied who and why was it allowed? Just curious.
Before being sold to MGM, Mirage and Bellagio were Steve Wynn's properties (along with others). He was very involved in building up his casinos, and continued to use chip designs that he liked. He was/is quite a character, probably the godfather of modern Las Vegas. He went on to open The Wynn Resort and now other casinos, especially in Macau.
In fact, if you sit at a poker table in either place with a rack of chips you will often see one or two of the other casino's chips in the rack. They seem to be fairly interchangeable in the $1 and $5 denominations. Of course I don't get to play with anything bigger than that
