Chips: 904 | | | I'm slowing down... I find that my collecting efforts are slowing down considerably and wondering if others have experienced similar ebbs and flows in their collecting efforts. I'm not spending as much, acquiring as many, purchasing as frequently. I've become way more selective. On my recent trip to Las Vegas I even rejected acquiring chips at face value that I would have previously jumped at the chance to buy. I've been collecting for just over a year now.
Is this common? For the record, my interest has not waned at all.

Me too. I am not at all in the buying mode anymore, just selling. Of course, my chips are not the highly collectible type like Jamby's or GamingOre's but still pretty darn good collection.
I find myself with a sudden urge to finally finish my condo renovations, i.e. put doors on the bathroom, etc. so I can have a poker party some day. And that takes money, most of which I spent on chips. |

I am probably going to sell anything that isn't nailed down in the next couple weeks.
I'll start buy just keeping 3 of each chip in my solids and unloading big honking sets. I need a substantial wad of cash to buy as many chips as I'd like. So everything else must go.
Still love the hobby and the site, but I'm in sell and save mode.

-jamby | I think it is a sign that you begin to mature as a collector. With all that gold in your chaimbers you begin to think of diamonds. How ever, this could be a tuff time since I guess that you are trying to find a deeper purpose of your collection as well.
I could be very wrong here of course but one thing is for sure, it is not uncommon for collectors to go through these fases where you buy less or nothing for a period of time.

First off as the years went buy I got wiser, second I have so much it blows peoples minds. lol
Now I am very picky, it must be rare or have some historical value or fill some holes in my collection.
Generaly it has to be pre 1930, on less it is 1 of or very unique.
i wish there was a web site like this for mc collectables. |

Chips: 638 | | | Re: I'm slowing down... Jamby, Get use to it. I've been a collector for 20 + years and have gone through the same thing in all fields of collecting, Lately, I've done nothing in some area, but made good size deals in others. I have not bought a HOT wheel for 3 years. Have not figured out what to do with the 5000 + I have. Did purchase a 100 or so 1:24 scale NASCAR cars. Found a bunch of HS NCV single chips. It will come and go. The longer your at it, the more selective you will get, also.
David. The guy with more crap then you can shake a stick at. |

-jamby | LOL. It only took you a year to slow down, Jamby?
I've noticed a slow down after a few months, but i think my checkbook was the culprit.
Seriously, I have slown down after going balls for the first few months. For me, the first few months were fun as I really didn't know crap about chip collecting, so everything is so new and cool. I still have a lot to learn, but the newness has worn off. Also, to me the fun part is discovering what chips are out there, and finding out what I like and don't like. Lastly, I think my slowdown is also related to generally being more picky about the chips I buy. Of course this could change tomorrow. LOL. |
