Chips: 1,578 | | | Which chips to collect for a set? I have a question. I have been considering starting to collect chips, from a particular chipset, to play with. What I was wondering is what set you guys recommend.
What I don't want to happen is me start buying certain chips, getting half way through, and then never being able to find them again. For example, if I were to try and put together a set of Vineyards, and I bought 180@3-5 bucks a peice, then could never find anymore, that would suck.
So what do you guys recommend? Vineyards, Crystal Parks, PNY's? Or if one of you have a large set that you sell peices of, and wouldn't mind some weekly income for a while, that's okay too! |

I only have a couple hundred more that I would sell, so this isn't customer related.

-jamby | This may be funny, but it's a bad idea. There just aren't that many around. If you like ASMs the Palmas are a decent choice and you can supplement from ASM with clones.
Otherwise, I like the PNY. I hav sets of Dunes and PNYs, but I think the PNYs meed your criteria of availability in playable quantities the best.

I think that answering the OP question though is really dependent on just how large a playable set he wants to create.

The PNY chips will be the easiest to collect out of all the ones mentioned. They have the attractive grand inlay and nice edge spots. They aren't perfect in my opinion, but very nice. They also have the added bonus of being in unplayed condition.
Vineyards are nice looking, but for the price they are demanding I just can't see it. They are apparently the "King" of obsolete casino sets, so if that is important to you, go for it.
Crystal Park chips are becoming very scarce lately. I look for them regularly to no avail. I love the way these chips look personally. The california chip colors (yellow 5s mainly) are a bit odd, but they are nice looking set. This was my personal holy grail set.
You could try collecting American Cruises, original James Bond, Scandia or another "fantasy" Paulson for the shaped inlays. The Bond chips pop up in sets here and there, the others are usually found in small quantities. If I thought I could find enough American Cruises (or similiar) chips to make a set, I might try to do that.
All in all, my favorite chip that can be collected into a set (or bought as one) are Dunes. They have a sweet inlay and an amazing mold. As close to perfection as I've seen in a chip. Adding to this set to bring it beyond the standard 5/25/100 denominations would be a costly challenge, but that might be a fun goal.
