Costa Rican casinos/chips?

My little brother is heading to Costa Rica tomorrow for a school trip. Does anyone know the names and locations of any casinos in Costa Rica? Also, does anyone have pics of Costa Rican chips? Any info would be appreciated.

Re: Costa Rican casinos/chips?

There are some nice casinos in San Jose.. my friends from CR swear that the casino associated with the Radisson in San Jose is the place to go.. but thats local non-poker players talking.

There are a few resort like casinos on the Pacific Coast (including some spots in Tamarindo). A quick google search for casinos costarica seems to bring up some decent websites that talk about the different games etc going on.

We've been looking half heartedly as we have a wedding in CR in Dec, and want to do a few days stay at one of the casinos before flying back to Canada.

Any trip reports or chip pics would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Costa Rican casinos/chips?

We went to CR in April. We traveled directly to the Pacific Coast and did not stay in San Jose. We loved CR, and I had a hard time getting my wife to return to the U.S. We'll be back.

There is an excellent resort near Jaco -- the Marriot Los Sueños. It has a small casino, with chips! We played blackjack (called Rummy there, with a few unusual rules) and had lotsa fun. No poker as far as I could tell. Everything in US Dollars. It was a company award trip so everything was first class and free.

If anyone is going to Los Sueños, I would love to get a few red chips, both variations. I had some, but screwed up. Don't even ask.

Re: Costa Rican casinos/chips?

Was in CR this last winter. Saw a reasonable sized casino near the shopping district in San Juan -- didn't go in. Did stay at the Cariari resort (near the San Juan airport?) May be a Raddison so may be the one other poster referred to. No poker, about 6 table games. Same weird 'rummy' blackjack mentioned earlier. Brought back one chip. No scan tho.

These are what I have, but I've not been to any of the casinos. I've been to Costa Rica twice, but only on the East coast, where there are no casinos!

Are the bottom middle and bottom right 1000 cents and 5000 cents? So $10 and $50? I'm ignorant of the Coasta Rican currency.

Re: Costa Rican casinos/chips?

Thanks for the pics, Jim. My brother is on a specific schedule and I know he was moving from place to place. He is pretty worthless so I am not expecting much, but if comes through, I will post pics.

Costa Rican Colones (CRC) about 490 per $1.
