I have one of the old Luxor Chipcos left... I see that they've gone to clay chips at the Luxor now... I assume the NGC requires all the old chips destroyed... So does my obsolete Luxor chip increase in value (at least in theory -- I know there are probably a ton on the market)?

I see that eBay is selling 'em for a few bucks more, but eBay isn't always a good barometer...

Wedge, although it was discussed in another thread, I'm too tired to do a search, so I'll reply here...

Mandalay Bay Resorts was bought-out by MGM/Mirage. Mandalay Bay Resorts was the owner of the Mandalay, Luxor, Excalibur, Circus-Circus and 1/2 owner of Monte Carlo, as well as several other casinos in Nevada and elsewhere.

MGM/Mirage favors Paul-Son and opted to re-issue chips for Luxor and Excalibur. Rumors are that Monte Carlo is next, but they are already Paul-Son. I think Circus-Circus is next, because they use Chipco, as did Luxor.

Now, the question becomes will you $1 chip increase in value? Not likely. There were more than a ton of them made and thousands exist in the collector community. Unless yours is pristine, it will not increase in value (in your lifetime).

It would be my guess that the obsolete chips were likely destroyed (i.e., pulverized), as this was customary of the Luxor and Excalibur before the buy-out with their well worn chips. In case you chip is in very good condition, talke heart that it is currently valued at $3, retail.

Yeah, I wasn't looking to retire onthe value of a $1 chip, I guess I just wondered if the casino stock of chips were destroyed, making this chip somewhat more obscure... in reality, there are probably *less* of the new Paulsons out there because they haven't been in circulation long...
