I would be down for 5 of them. All things considered, that would be pretty sweet. The chips are valued as an 'S' in my price book (one edition old). That is in the $300 ballpark.....each. However a find of this size is surely going to bring down that value somewhat. I would love to hear the story behind those chips... I wonder what "estate" they were purchased from.
I once found a box of hoyle plastic chips at a garage sale. But that is about the extent of my "finds". lol

Chips: 10,807 | | | Re: I wish I had $9,000 laying around right now... CAUTION...CAUTION....CAUTION!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Early issues chips from the Tropicana are coming out of the woodwork, or dare I say the pre-implosion preparation!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The current price guides are all wrong on the value of these chips. The chip collecting community has already been offered much of this type of stuff and most dealers have refused it because the sellers want book value of what was believed to be one or two of a kind, but a box of them makes a reall difference on two important points... 1. A box shows that where one or two existed previously, suddenly 100 more exist. 2. The existence of a box only points to more boxes in hiding!
The recent availability of these chips are more of an indication that the trusted employees of the Trop have already left for better (more secure) jobs, leaving behind those who may have other retirement plans in development.
At least 4 different early issue chips have escaped the Tropicana vault in the past 18 months, chips that were previously thought to be destroyed!!!
This greatly increases the odds that Tropicana chips, just like Horseshoe chips have been kept from physical destruction.

Chips: 908 | | | Re: I wish I had $9,000 laying around right now... To Gaming Ore's point, in the last few months, up until the announcement was made that the Tropicana had been purchased and will remain open indefinitely, there was a sudden influx of "rare" Trop chips on ebay. Some that I had seen going for around $40 were suddenly listing a Buy It Now price of something like $84! The bad part is, that one would sell and suddenly another of the same "rare" chip would be listed by the same seller only a day or two later. Then came the aforementioned announcement and miraculously, all of the rare chip prices dropped dramatically. I think there is one of the same variety listed right now that has been sitting at around $26 for a day or 2. Most of the others all but dried up and disappeared for a month or so.
With the new info surfacing about at least part of the Tropicana being demolished, I'm sure we'll begin seeing more of them seeping out to the public again.
I just thought these were cool. I'm a sucker for old, uncirculated chips. Even more so for Tropicana chips in this condition. Although, I doubt that I'd ever pay that much for them. We just had to go and pick the one casino that has the on-again/off-again date with the chopping block to host our wedding, didn't we? | | | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
