I'm a big fam of Doug's posts and agree it should be in a locked thread. I started following the tips on the chipboard, started adding favourites for various websites etc, and then stopped when you started reposting them here as they are now a very easy reference tool.

No negative comments. Just a big thank you to Doug (and yourself). I have moved from a set collector to a casino chip collector in the last year or so, so find them very useful.

I can't endorse tip #3 enough. When I first started collecting I bought so much different stuff. You really have to focus your collection unless you are (1) a maniac; and (2) a billionaire.

I also recently applied to join the CC&GTCC. Not as a result of Doug's posts (although it is recommended in tip #2), but because of all the help various members have given me in the last year or so (and how much money they have taken off me ).

Indeed. A great series of posts and they are all very informative. Doug is doing a great service IMO with these. I had to learn to focus my collection the hard way. Fortunately, I learned that one relatively quickly.

There are a great collection of links there, many of which I hadn't seen or even knew about.

An additional thanks to you Jim for posting these here, and the sticky, locked thread is perfect.

Are there any monthly magazines on chip collecting or is everything on the web?

At the present time there are two related publications.

The Casino Chip and Token News (CCTN) which is the quarterly newsletter (glossy magazine) of the Casino Chip & Gaming Token Collectors Club, Inc.

It is available to all regular and Life Members of the Club as part of their annual/life dues. Visit CCGTCC.COM - Casino Chip & Gaming Tokens Collectors Club for more details.

A second publication (put out by CC&GTCC members Thomas Pleau and his wife) is the bi-monthly (once every two months) Casino News Magazine. Tom was supposed to put up a website: casinonewsmagazine.com, but is available otherwise at 800.892.2629. They are out of Twinsberg, OH and Tom constantly travels across the US collecting news and information about casinos and their chips.

The last subscription rate that I was familiar with is $15 per year (6 issues) and $25 for 1st Class mailing. It is a very good publication!

Honorable mention should also go out to Michael Knapp (co-author of The Chip Rack, a Nevada-only chip price guide) who writes a regular feature for Casino Player Magazine ob chip collecting.
