I got a chip for Easter - Caesars Palace $1 Card Room + $5 Hilton International

While visiting my mom for Easter, she gave me this:

She found it the other day while going through some old stuff. She has no idea how old it is, but its been a while since she has been in Vegas. Besides being a little dirty, it is in great shape considering it is just a random chip she brought back from a vacation.

I haven't had a chance to look it up yet so I don't really know anything about this chip. I just wanted to share the latest edition to my collection .

edit: changed thread name to include the Hilton chip in my second post

What a great Easter present. Your mom must be one great lady.

Re: I got a chip for Easter - Caesars Palace $1 Card Room

Hey all, I'm back and trying to catch-up...

Wot_Fan... Nice addition! That chip values at about $15, with deductions for condition. It is from the 70's and as far as I know, it is still accepted at Caesars, but for only a buck!

There were two versions of that chip, one with lettering a little bit bigger than the other. Not sure which one you have, but both are equal in value.

Re: I got a chip for Easter - Caesars Palace $1 Card Room

Thanks Jim for the info .

After seeing the chip that my mom found, my step-father dug one out of his old stuff for me. I stopped by on the way home from work and picked up this from him:

It is not in as good of shape as the Caesars Palace chip and it needs a cleaning, but it is still a cool chip. Two chips in two days, I can't wait to see what tomorrow brings .

Re: I got a chip for Easter - Caesars Palace $1 Card Room + $5 Hilton International

Now thats a chip!!!

I believe that the old International Hotel and Casino was bought by Hilton in 1970. Initially, it was called the Hilton International and then became the Hilton (Las Vegas). The Hilton International lasted until 1971 and the $5 you show is the only $5 issue from the Hilton International. There was also a $25, $100, and $500.

The $5 is valued at $75-$100! If I'm not mistaken, this was one of the issues in-use when Elvis was performing there.

In chip collecting circles, that chip is described as:

Dark Red, "House" mold (i.e., a custom mold, usually depicting a casino name, in this instance "HILTON" three times separated by the Hilton "H" logo) with 9 split inserts (6-yellow and 3-turquoise). The inlay is a "scallop" shape in white and the denomination is in red ink. The principal colors of the inlay are red and blue.

Very nice find!

Wow , I had no idea that the Hilton chip was worth that much. I just thought it was a good looking chip.

Thank you again Jim for taking the time to educate a newbie. Your posts are always very educational and I want you to know that it is appreciated. People like you make this hobby fun .
