Am thinking about heading to LV for a few days in late June to check out the CC-GTCC convention. Are there great deals there, or just a lot of eye candy? (which is not so bad ...) Have a few collecible chips and am looking to expand.

Advice on the convention and best path to take to expand collection? Right now I really like the shaped inlays with custom molds like Dunes, Sands, etc.

A little of both I think. I find some of the best deals in the "junk" bins. I am able to fill in a lot of holes in my collections.

But some of the best deals are also at the trading sessions. What's local to other guys is not local to me - so their trader books have some nice chips in there that I wouldnt otherwise be able to get.

My wife calls us "Chip Dorks" and I proudly say "Yes we are". But it is a super nice group of people who collect everything. Mainly Chips, Tokens, and Silver Strikes. However some people collect other casino memoribilia (yeah I can spell) Swizzle Sticks, Serving trays, ashtrays, coin cups, and basically anything with a casino logo and/or name on it.

The main difference between the people here and the people in that group seems to be that this group focus' more on home game sets and things for poker. That group of folks is more about the history of gaming and individual collectable poker chips. There is also a great deal of knowledge available there that most are more than willing to share with anybody. There are some little Tiffs now and then but that is bound to happen with the personalities have differing opinions when they are so passionate about a hobby. However, they normally meet up at a convention and end up having a beer together. I have throughly enjoyed my time as a member of this club.

And now my 2 cents!

I purposely waited in responding to this post because my response is probably biased.

As a Life Member of the CC&GTCC, Inc., and as a volunteer unto the organization and for the fact that I hold two appointed positions (On-Line Communications Director and OTY Awards Chairman) for the past several years, needless to say I am very opinionated and pasrtial to the Club.

Many of the ChipTalk.net participants in this forum (Collectibles) that have gone beyond the posts with me (i.e., into PMing and email) can attest to the fact that I normally try to introduce them to the Club.

The Club was founded (established in 198 and currently has approximately 3,000 members World-wide. The Club is a not-for-profit organization, Incorporated under the 501 3(c) tax exempt status. Annual membership is $30 a year and for that a member gets 4 issues of an Award winning magazine and access priviledges to certain events at the annual Convention in Las Vegas!!!

Of course there are other important benefits and aspects of the Club, too many to discuss here, but you will be joining a fraternity of people that operate under a Code of Ethics that are just not found anywhere else.

That aspect of fraternity allows me to send hundreds of dollars worth of chips through the mail, knowing that the recipient has obligated him/her- self to simultaneously send a payment or exchange of chips in return.

My brother just spent a week there at Binions...His recommendation was to stay closer to the main strip and save the cab fares and time. Plus Binions is not very well maintained.
