Chips: 6,850 | | | Dunes 16th issue? I like green chips, so I saw this one searching ebay. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...MEWA%3AIT&rd=1
The auction says it is rare, 16th issue, whatever that means. I would like to get this chip as long as it is reasonable, so I turn to the collector savants to ask: how much would it be worth? Auction doesn't end until Saturday, so I assume others are lying in the weeds like me, waiting to get closer to the end to bid.
Thanks!! |

Chips: 1,053 | | | actually, it's a 15th issue. That chip is actually a 15th issue Dunes chip. The 16th issue is the more available golf course design.
According to the Official U.S. Casino Chip Price Guide the $25 chip has a value estimate ranging from $350-$700 depending on condition.
The Chip Rack say $200-$249 - a much more conservative estimate, which isn't at all unusual for TCR.
That .99 cent starting price is hard to figure...
Happy chipping,

Chips: 6,850 | | | Re: Dunes 16th issue? WOW!! I knew the present 99 cent price was too low, but WOW!! No way I can afford a chip at that price. Oh well. I'll keep my eye on it, so I can say "I knew it when it was only 99 cents!" Thanks Jamby. |

Thanks!! | I collector circles, it is known as the Harem Girl issue and it is quite collectible! The seller is a well known and trusted chip seller in the community. His description (16th issue) comes from the C/W "Official" chip guide, where the authors Campigilia/Wells have attempted to record the order in which chip-sets were introduced by a casino.
The Harem Girl issue of the Dunes is very popular and sought after by collectors. Valued at around $300 - $350, I expect that this chip will do rather well, but it does have issues.
First and foremost, the inlays are off-center. This is an esthetics thing, but for several hundred dollars, I would want one that has a better centering of the inlays, or at least one inlay. Secondly, there appears to be a bit of wear on this chip. I COULD BE WRONG, but given the scans provided in the auction, the cross-hatching appears gone from the bottom most part of the mold, out to the outer edge of the chip. BUT again, this is a Harem Girl issue and having a used one is probably better than not having one at all!!! So yes, you can assume that others are in fact lying in the weeds.
Could you imagine a home game set of these? It came in a $1, $5, $25, $100, $500, $5,000 and $20,000. I do not see a $1,000 referenced, so one may or may not have existed. The 5K and 20K were baccarat chips.

Thanks for the additional info. Any idea why the issue number would vary between the guides?

Jim (Gaming Ore) Follis | LOL, I was just about to write this exact same thing precisely and then I got to your post.
This would be just about the best home use set of all time with this Harem girl inlay and the Dunes house mold.
I wonder if we could ever get a group buy with this chip, design, inlay, mold, etc.
Think we might all go insane if we were able to get these done as a group buy????????? |

-jamby | Not sure what you mean by this. I have second edition with me now (3rd edition is at home) and 2 nd edition indicates Golf Course is 17th issue. Is it different in your edition?
Also, The Chip Rack does not try to identify issue sequence. Variables like having a back-up set cause sequence problems. For example (although the casino name escapes me right now) within the past several years, shortly before this casino opened in Las Vegas, some individuals tried to cash-in a bunch of the $100 chips at a casino in Laughlin. On opening day, the casino was using their back-up set of $100, while all the other denominations were from the primary set. What then is the issue order? Also, sometimes a discovery is made of a whole different rack of chips, for a casino, that were never used, i.e., a back-up set. What then becoames the isuue number?
To some extent, this is why The Chip Rack authors do not try to track issue sequence.

Chips: 1,053 | | | Re: Dunes 16th issue? My U.S. guide 3rd ed. says this chip is the 15th issue and not the 16th. Says that the Golf Course is both 16th and 17th. Quote: |

Chips: 6,850 | | | Re: Dunes 16th issue? Thanks Jim for more information about the chip -- I love it when you and Jamby get all technical-like!!
I am unfortunately a poor college professor -- contrary to popular belief most of us are VERY poorly paid in comparison to other professionals -- and could not really afford the chip if it were a mere $100, which I am guessing will be far exceeded! Oh well. I do have a mint green Dunes golf course chip and a cool Dunes $20 baccarat chip (also mint) from Spinettis, so I guess that will be the extent of my Dunes chips (unless I somehow inherit a huge fortune, which is very unlikely!).
Thanks again for the info guys!!
EDIT: As an aside, oh to be Noelsarchs and discover a FORGOTTEN set of Dunes chips just lying around... | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
