Re: Any one know about these chips

I know there are some experts around, but here is what little I know.

The Harrah's chip is a typical brass core chip made for a period of time. I have a few just like that and from The Nugget in Reno. I don't think they are particularly rare, but they are cool. I don't know anything about the other chip.

send a pm to Jim Gaming Ore Follis and he will point you in the right direction. The same guy you called "brat" on the final table the other night for raising your blinds

Re: Any one know about these chips

The $5 red chip on the left is from Harrahs in Lake Tahoe. It's known as PMSC (Plastic Molded Slug Core) mold, but is commonly referred to as a 'brass core'. It's a 13th issue chip and is valued at $8-$20 by The Official U.S. Chip Price Guide (3rd ed.) and $10-14 by The Chip Rack 10th ed.

The Park Tahoe $1 chip is known as a DieCar (Dice & Cards) mold it's from the Park Tahoe casino, which was only open for a couple of years in the late 1970s. The U.S. Guide estimates the value of that chip @ $5-$10. The Chip Rack estimates it at $10-14.

Happy chipping,
-jamby

Re: Any one know about these chips

Hey Jamby,

Thanks for covering while I was away from the computer. You gave good info. Glad to see you have the TCR now.

Ilyu2 - This brat has no problem sharing chip info. Please feel free to post your questions anytime. Many of us here are more than happy to help out, and if we don't have the answer, we usually know where to go.

Best regards,

Jim (Gaming Ore) Follis

Re: Any one know about these chips

Just a little bit more info....

The Park Tahoe was open from 1978 - 1979 and in that time they had three different $1 chips, all with what the collectors call the DIECAR mold (4 pairs of dice and 4 groups of 4 cards). The "DIECAR" mold is also found printed on many Bud Jones chips, as opposed to being indented into the chip, when indented, the collectors call it "incused".

Two of three DIECAR chips (all incused) are the same color as the one pictured, while the third one is burnt orange. All three are hot-stamped, but all three have different wording. The matched color to the chip shown also has the word "poker" and the burnt orange version states: "Palyable Only Gaming". The burnt orange version lists for just under $100!

The Harrah's 'brass core' has a brother and sister version. One is identical in color and exposed brass, but the font used to spell "Harrah's" is different. One has serifs and the other has no serifs. The third version is/was used for baccarat. It is green, with 16 exposed brass sections, four out at the outer edge (the chip shown has 6 exposed brass sections, 3 out at the outer edge) and it is oversized. Quite a hefty chip!
