How often are new editions of The Chip Rack published?

Based on a recommendation by ross in this thread, I am considering purchasing a copy of The Chip Rack. I noticed that the current edition was first published about a year and half ago. Since I would like the most up to date info possible, I am curious if I should wait for the next release. Do you know when the next version is expected to be published?

Also, where is the best place to purchase a copy. I found it for $48+s/h here.

TIA.

Re: How often are new editions of The Chip Rack published?

According to one of the three authors, June, 2007! It will not be sooner, as they usually publish in conjunction with the Annual CC&GTCC, Inc. convention. This year's Convention will be at the end of June, too soon for a TCR 11. Your link is a very valid place to get a copy of TCR 10 and that is the going rate.

Thanks for the info Jim. As usual, you are The Man .

Since the next release is at least 15 months away, I think I will pull the trigger and buy a copy of the current version.

Thanks again.

You might try ebay too. I got lucky and found a brand new copy for $40 with shipping included.

Its an invaluable resource. It doesnt travel well - its a little too big to carry around in your laptop bag, but still is a great addition to your library. One day I hope the authors will embrace electronic media. I understand the DRM implications and all but being able to have the info on my Treo or at least laptop would be great.

Here's the downside - there are too many new chips released that you want to catalog. But if the numbers only come out every 2-3 years then you have to go back and revisit your database/catalog. Fortunately Allan Meyers is GREAT about providing the numbers if you email him (I try not to do it that often, i bet I could wear out my welcome pretty quick).

Yup - I get distracted easily and like change

Well its from the late 40's (accding to chip rack the club was opened 1947-1950). There's a $5, $25, $100. I have the $5 and $25. Its another chip that was missing in action for a long time till a box of them were found under a sink - and therefore another case where you'd want to keep abreast of findings. So I was able to add one to my collection for a reasonable price ($50).

This is a hotstamped large crown mold (TR King). Here's a bigger (hi-res) image. BTW - if you are interested in learning more about molds, a great reference is Robert E's mold design index (http://www.antiquegamblingchips.com/...index_site.htm)

Re: How often are new editions of The Chip Rack published?

Thanks Ross. But just to round everything out, the Stork Club was located in Las Vegas (3131 S. 5th St.) from 1947 - 1950. Definately opened and closed before I was around!

TCR carried the blue $25 at a no-market established of $350 - $399. I guess the market has now been established much lower.

Thanks for sharing and many of the collectors here often make reference to Robert's most excellent website and the "mold" project therein.

Thanks again Ross!
