My Turn; Chips added from a "UFC" Shot Gun...

We chip collectors can sometimes be very a very strange lot indeed.

Several weeks ago, one of our fellow Club members called for a "3 Chip, UFC Shot Gun". As I mentioned in another thread here at ChipTalk, "UFC" stands for Unidentified Flying Chip, a play on the acronym "UFO". To chip collectors it means a chip for which no one of record knows where the chip was from. (Many personalized home sets fit this category.)

A 3 Chip Shot Gun is a mechanism by which collectors can quickly trade chips in sets of 3 to multiple collectors. In this instance, 9 different collectors all agreed to send each of the other participants, 3 UFC's. I sent 24 chips, in groups of 3 to 8 different Club members, all of whom sent me 3 chips each.

These are the chips I received over a several day period last week.

Remember, these are UFC's, so no, I do not know where any of them are from. Does anyone here recognize the symbol on the orange chip in row 4, second from the left? If you recognize anything about these chips, that might shed some light on where they are from, please feel free to let me know.

If you count the chips you will note that there are 2 extras. This is becuase sometimes, some people will send a bonus chip. I received 1 bonus chip from 2 different participants.
Pretty nice cross section of molds, hot-stamps, colors and inserts. All hot-stamps, because you don't see too many UFC's with printed inlays.

Thanks for looking,

Jim (Gaming Ore) Follis

Thanks for the tidbit on the UFC Shotgun exchange Jim. I can't wait to get involved in one of those.

What's the bottom-most chip in the lower right hand corner with the 3 orange inserts and R&C hotstamp? I've not seen that mold before. I like the 160 Club chip too. Very nice.

I love the mold on the chip in the last row all the way to the right. Do you know what this mold is called?

Amazing chips, and the UFC shotgun sounds like fun!

Cool chips. Are some ones you had before the shotgun? There are 29 chips there, that's 5 extra, two of which are accounted for by the two bonus chips you received but that still leaves 3 extra chips.

Lazy Diamonds is the mold name used by collectors...

Visit Robert Eisenstadt's most excellent website on molds at: http://www.antiquegamblingchips.com/..._geometric.htm

For additional details, like manufacturer, dates, etc. He also will sell blanks of this mold (five colors) for $3 each! (I have no idea abount quantities!)

I was also asked about the three extra chips... My math sucks! There were ten of us in the Shot Gun, when I subtracted myself, I thought there were only 8 senders. I did receive chips from 9 others.

As an interesting aside.... There are some collectors out there that only collect mased on molds. Doesn't matter where or whats on the chips, just as long as it's a different mold design. There are many collectors that will create subset collections in a focused area, like molds, or parrots, or red, or my favorite...Bi-Centennial chips!

So, Jim, is it the lazy diamonds mold chip that a few of us are asking about? That seems to be the case, but I'm not trusting the graphics. I really like that mold - very unique.

Yes. Here is a detailed scan. Actually, a link to a detailed scan, very large file. (I do not know how to post a small version here that can be clicked to see a large version. But I can learn if someone wants to share.)

When you view this scan please note that the diamonds are raised, not sunken, while they sit in a trough.

Two chips are scanned and have different wear.

Jim

Jim,

That mold is great. Thanks for the explanation too. The raised diamonds are very sharp. I sure would like to trade for one of those!

Not sure if it's a "true" bi-centennial chip but I thought it was a cool chip to add to my collection. Just got it off EBAY from James Campiglia.
