I have seen several of the methods (and suppliers) for storing and displaying your chips. I do have a few questions.
I have seen several of the "airtight" single chip cases. Is there really a benefit to keeping your chips like this? Sure - it would preserve a mint/uncirculated chip to perfection, but is there a secondary reason?
I was pretty much going to use binders and slide holders when starting out - and framing my favs. But I was curious weather or not the airtights mage any real difference.
Maybe for cleaned/oiled chips - for preventing the oil from drying out and the finish "dulling" ?????
You'll probably be fine with binders. I like airtights for displaying my favorite chips. I dont really know if it makes a big difference as far as preserving them. But with airtights you can make stacks and shuffle them. . . is that weird?
I originally used air-tites for all my collectible chips, but could never find a suitable way to store them. Then I discovered Dansco albums, and really like the way they store my chips safely and display them in an attractive manner. Look at this ebay auction Dansco Album
They are made in a way that they can be placed with books on a shelf and not look out of place. The pages have 2 pockets per row that keep the chip in place. Into each pocket a clear piece of plastic slides in and out to sandwich the chip into place. I really like the albums and have 3 that are almost full.
I think the attraction of the Air-Tites is obviously that it allows you to handle the chip without soiling or damaging it. If a chip is kept in a binder, you can't handle/examine it as easily. The problem with the Air-Tites is that they're not a convenient way to store a large collection of chips -- at least that's my experience.
I don't know anything about the Dansco album, but if it is essentially a binder for Air-Tites, it sounds like it could be the best of both worlds.
