Borgata chips (PICS)

I believe that these are the bud jones chips. I am not sure how to rate these chips. Just imagine your 11.5 gram dice chips with 2 layers of polyurethane on it. That is, they are plastic and very shiny. Incredibly, they stack pretty well. I feel that there was somewhat of a suction between the chips as if they had a very light magnet in them (I need to break one to find out). The upside to these chips is that they tend to be a lot more durable and clean than the clay chips used in most poker room. I did not see one dirty chip in the 35 session that I played. I think the casino does not need to replace them as often as they would with the clays. The endspots are not painted on but are all the way thru. The downside is that these chips are almost impossible to shuffle. I cant explain it, but I can not get a repeated shuffle.

I also had the honor of holding a $5000 chip. I believe the design is the same with a grey body and red edge spots

yeah, they're quite suctiony. that's good for craps, but not so much for poker and BJ.

Maybe someone that has both can confirm or demy. I think that these might be the same type of chip as the Bud Jones Dodge City chips that I just got on the member to member board.

If they are, it would make sense as I would agree to the suction comment and the difficulty of shuffling. They are a real difficult to shuffle.

Borgota Chips

A friend of mine played at the Borgota a few months ago and said that the chips definitely have small magnets in them. This makes it impossible to shuffle them but also cuts down on the noise in the casino from everyone shuffling constantly.

I think it is disappointing that a high level casino would opt out of true clay chips.

I like the looks and colors of those chips. But like someone said, they seem more for craps than other card games.

Yes, those are Bud Jones V7 "decal" chips, in their standard inlay size (decal size A -- same as the Dodge City chips). The BJ plastic material is injected in several stages to create the multi-colored patterns. The words, spots, denominations, etc. are molded into the chip, not painted on. BJ chips are usually machine-finished for their final beveling and consistency. The printed decal is glued on to the center of the chip.

Although the chips are shiny, they are quite "sticky" (in a good way). The unique BJ composite material makes a durable but slightly soft surface. It's a closely-held secret formula, but I've heard it contains plastic, nylon, and whatever else.

There is definitely a suction effect in this inlay sized chip, with a wide edge. There is so much plastic material in contact between chips, and the inlay is inset a bit, that a slight vacuum forms. So they stack very well.

But that also makes them harder to shuffle. When I shuffle BJs, I find myself slightly angling the stacks when I first pull them up, which tends to break the suction a little bit. The other V7 inlay sizes have a larger decal and a smaller rim area, so they are much easier to shuffle and there's not the same vacuum.

Don't cut into one of yours... it's already been done. They have a non-magnetic metal insert. The scanner makes it look silver-colored but it's actually bronzed.

I have the $1 chip. Next time I am out there I am going to pick up the $2.50 and $5 chips. They are very nice for a plastic chip.

Bud Jones stickiness

I've also found that these chips are harder to handle in areas where there is high humidity. Get some moisture in the air and these chips just want to stick to each other like glue. I've also cut one open - no magnet, just metal.

Looks like a Commerce Casino $1 chip in the pic above, which is what I used as well.

These chips are undoubtedly easier to clean and maintain than clays, but they still just feel like toys to me.
