Is it just me, or do the AC casinos have some of the ugliest chips I've seen? I guess the gaming board dictates the both colours and the edgespot patterns.

Brewster, it is not only that they are ugly. (i do like the Borgata chips though) you have to see how worn and dirty some of them are. The Taj $1 chips bearly have an edge on them and the mold imprints are almost gone. Ceasers was a little (and I mean a little) better.

I'm happy to see that the notion that these had magnets inside has been dispelled. However, I think we could have ruled out magnets without cutting one open simply by trying to stack a group of magnets into a straight column... It is impossible, unless you use a vice.
These chips are nearly industructible (in table play). They seem to last forever and always appear clean. However, they do pick up table dirt and when the humidity increases they will become sticky because moisture will condense onto the chip and mix with the dirt. In effect, they will become gummy.

Actually some of the Taj $1 are fairly new (crisp edges). Took 10 home with me. Course sifted through the drek and took the 10 best. Also took some Showboat $1 back with me as well. Here is a scan:
