| Re: My Best Chips Hey "Big"...
Welcome to ChipTalk.net! (You'll have to PM me to advise if I know you already under a different non de plume.) Those are some very nice chips, especially the Dune "marquee" chip!!! Since it is in excellent condition, I imagine you paid a sultan's ransom for it (pun intended).
For our other viewers, that series of Dunes chips, referred to as the "marquee" issue, because it features the long-gone Dunes sign, is extremely popular amoung Dunes collectors. Made by Paul-Son, in a house mold (4 x "Dunes") as the 15th series of chips, this $100 chip is valued at more than $1,200!
I personnally have the $5 version, well worn (won't stand on edge!) and carry it around with me (in an air-tite) and it's value is about $100!
I must say that I am rather envious of the Thunderbird $5! 7th in a series of about 11, that H&C molded chip is a Christy & Jones version and will run around $800! (Remeber, a C&J H&C has shiny hat surfaces and the inserts are arched at the inner dimension, making that side parallel to the outer edge!)
Lastly, "Big" and I know that the remarkable feature of his Nevada Club is the absence of a drill hole. Most examples of this chip are found cancelled (with a drill hole) making the damaged versions worth about 5% of the un-damaged versions running around $400. (I'll assume that "Big"'s version is whole and un-repaired, as he stipulated that he only collected chips in excellent condition.) This is the 7th series set of chips for this casino and were likely used in the early 60's.
With chips like these as your three best, I still suspect that after four years you still have some spectacular chips in your collection that we would love to see here.
Thanks for sharing!
