| Re: A Couple of Small Crowns Mark,
Welcome to ChipTalk.net!
Hey CT'ers, Mark comes to us from thechipboard.com. He is also a member of the CC>CC, as well as a couple of other casino memorabilia affiliated clubs. Mark should have some good info and scans for us!
With respect to the two chips that Mark has shown, I have a vague recollection of the topic of the hot-stamped logo being a generic logo belonging to TR King and not the establishments. Kind of like a horseshoe, or a clover, or other such generic patterns/designs.
Just like Mark, I know nothing more of the California card club, but the Las Vegas casino is a different story!!!
In existence since 1955, under various names, this place exists today. Located on the West-side of old Las Vegas, this place has been advised to chip collectors as a place not to visit, especially at night! Currently operating as Ultra New Town Tavern, past names have been Town Tavern and New Town Tavern. Older chips are very much in demand, as this place has historically been minority owned, with minority customers in a depressed neighborhood. The implication being that patrons did not spend much time collecting chips, unless it was a pay-off and that went directly to the cage for cash! The name changes indicated new ownership and LAST THING the new owners wanted was for old chips to resurface and have to be paid. So, it was customary to completely destroy (permanently) the old chips. This of course made any survivors a hot ticket.
The chip shown by Mark is from the 60's and is retailed valued at around $100.
