A great 1000 chip breakdown...

I have seen this asked so many times and I think I have it down pretty well so I thought I would share. Also, just so you know, I often play in $.25/.$50/$1.00 dealers choice games so I needed 50's. Regardless, I think this set-up works great.

360 Green chips @ 25 value x 12 chips per man = 300 value
360 Grey chips @ 50 value x 12 chips per man = 600 value
196 Black chips @ 100 value x 6 chips per man = 600 value
84 Purple chips @ 500 value x 1 chip per man = 500 value

With the above numbers (5 stardeal lets you get single nexgens like this) you can accommodate a 30 man tourney with each player getting $2000 in chips and getting 31 chips each - which I believe are really good numbers all around. You will also have, 54 - purple, 500 chips left over for coloring up later on.

Obviously, you can change the colors or whatever, but for the amount and values, I don't think you can work it out any better than the above - esp. if you need the 50's to serve for your cash games. I mean come on, 1000 chips for 30 folks with room for color-up. Show me how this can be done better...

Thoughts?

Well let's see...2,000 with blinds starting at 25/50 because green is your lowest chip.
Blind levels Buy-in/BB
25-50 40
50-100 20
75-125 16
100-200 10

Compare to this for a 1,000 tourney
10-20 50
15-30 33.3
20-40 25
25-50 20

I think your blinds go up WAY too fast. I suppose you could do 25-25 blinds at level 1 or something but I don't know if that's a good trade off.
Good combination to get lots of people lots of chips, but the blind structures poor.

Replying to my own message, but I figured I'd give this a shot:
--$2,000 tourney
--30+ people
--1,000 chips

Not great would be:
10 - Red
10 - Green
7 - Black
2 - Purple
Use the remaining 130 chips for extra green+ for coloring up...maybe:
300 red ($1500)
348 green ($8700)
252 black ($25000)
75 purple ($37500)
25 yellow ($25000)
Blinds at 10/20, 15/30, 25/50, 50/100, 100/200
10/20 & 20/40 aren't that bad despite the small number of red chips because the SB can put in a green and take a red from the BB or vice versa.
At lvl 4 you color up the 300 red chips with the 48 "extra" green & 3 black
At lvl 5 you color up the 348 green chips with the 42 "extra" black chips & 9 purple chips.
Yellow can be introduced when ever convenient or not at all

Okay, now that I spent this much time doing this it is a pain to have red chips "just" for 2 levels of blinds. I think it helps in theory but the above could probably use some tweaking.

In our last night game we started with $3000 in chips with the breakdown like this.

$25 X 30 =$750
$50 X 11 =$550
$100 X 12 = $1200
$500 X 1 = $500

The Blinds

$25/$50 20 mins
$50/$100 20 mins
$75/$150 20 mins
$100/$200 15 Mins
$200/$400 15 mins
$300/$600 15 mins

Buy this time we where heads up. So with breaks and whatnot the whole game with 8 players lasted 2.5 hours or so.

not sure it was the best structure but we are always tring out new things to try and find something that works good.

1000 chips, 30 person tourney:

You could go with:
360 green ($25)
360 Black ($100)
230 Purple ($500)
50 Orange ($1000)

Then you could give 30 players T5000 (which gets you 100X a BB buy-in at blinds starting at $25/$50);

Each person gets:
12 x green
12 x black
7 x purple

Thats still 31 chips per person starting. You have enough extra purple and orange chips to colorup the greens and blacks.

For your dealer's choice cash games, you don't need the $50 ($.50) chips, since you have plenty of greens and blacks.

I like this! And it helps that the Pharoah's green/black/purple/orange all look awesome.
