Chips: 158 | | | Chip distribution help I have a rotating home game that has several people who host it. All of these hosts use a regular old dice chipset. We've had people sneaking chips in, robbing the bank, all sorts of problems.
I'm fixing most of this by customizing a set of el cheapo dice chips with labels, to be replaced with Nexgens later on when I'm up enough to cover it.
I'd like this set to have 1000-1200 chips when finished and would need to be able to handle all of these situations:
One table ring game, 0.10/0.25 NL Hold'em
One table ring game, $1/$2 NL or limit Hold'em
Single table tourney, T500 or T1000 starting stacks, starts T5/T10, 20 minute levels, rebuys for first hour
I have two 300-chip cases and will be taking only 600 chips to each game. I do NOT want a 5 or 10 cent chip. Rolls of nickels will be introduced to compensate... I don't want a chip small enough to be worth walking out with.
Thoughts?
edit: before anyone asks, yes, there will be blue $1's |

Chips: 13,936 | | | 1. One solution is non-denomination chips.
3 colors ($.05, $.25, $1 for 1st ring game)
3 colors ($1, $5, $25 for 2nd ring game)
3/4 colors ($5, $25, $100 maybe $500 for $500/$1000 tournaments - may need the $500 for multiple re-buys)
*******************
2. Otherwise with denominations it sounds like you need:
$.10 chip - 1st ring
$.25 chip - 1st ring
$1 chip - 1st and 2nd ring
$5 chip - All 3
$25 chip - 2nd ring and Tournament
$100 - Tournament
$500 - Tournament (maybe)
7 colors - or 5 if you use nickels and no $.10 or $.25 - but in my opinion mixing change and chips stinks.
****************
3. Go with no $ sign and just a number
5 = $.05 or $5 handles lowest levels of 1st ring and tourney
10 = $.10 or $10 same as 5
25 = $.25 or $25 - 1st ring and tourney
100 = $1 or $100 for both ring games and tourney
500 = $5 or $500 for both ring or tourney
5 colors
*****************
I use my 11.5 gram suits for Tournamanets (1250 chips) and went with NEXGENs - 400 chips - 4 colors with denominations ($.50, $1, $5, $20) for the cash games ($1050 value - never had it all in play) - but we don't have 2 levels like you describe
Hope this helps.
Thanks,
Matt

Thanks for posting your spreadsheet - it's sweet! I did something similar in excel, but I did it mostly "longhand"(few calulations)... just so I could see multiple player #'s, different buyin sizes, possible rebuys, and different chip #'s line by line. I was trying to figure out the ideal chip set size for my game(or possible games). What I needed next was your spreadsheet!!! Anyway, I modified your spreadsheet to include chip color-up and possible rebuy calculations. I would be happy to send it to you if you PM me your e-mail address.
P.S. It's probably obvious I'm not an excel pro, but I got the job done. You could probably make it better - if not - aside from entering your own values, you should just have to modify the calculations in Columns J & K according to the chip values you use and how you color-up. Thanks!

Chips: 8,582 | | Dr. Neau's Tournament Manager can help you figure out chip distribution as well. It's a great piece of software, and works great on pc or mac. You just type in what chips you have, how much you'd like each player to start with ($ amount) and poof! It's done for you. I'm in no way affiliated with Dr. Neau, but thought you guys would be interested in using the software. It's share/donation ware. http://drneau.com/ |

Chips: 158 | | The second 300 set showed up today... and I now have the oddest color breakdown ever seen.
200 white
100 red
150 green
75 black
25 blue
50 yellow (WTF?)
Sadly, I think my custom chipset just became nondenoms. Thoughts? | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
